Davy X Jones Early Access for PC Launches August 28

Davy X Jones Early Access Release Date

Davy X Jones early access for PC will be launched on 28th August. Like, if you were hoping for a “later this year” kind of early access, it’s literally “in two weeks” from when I write this.

And the launch is extra cheeky: for the first 6 days, 6 hours, and 6 minutes, Davy X Jones will sell for exactly $6.66. Yeah, they’re milking the devilish theme for everything it’s worth, but hey, it’s memorable.

Key Features

Where do I even start? The whole game’s premise sounds like a fever dream that finally got a publisher. You play as the legendary Davy Jones… or, more accurately, as Jones (the body) and Davy (the skull). You’re betrayed, beheaded, and tossed into “The Locker,” a surreal afterlife for pirates.

There, your head’s off doing its own thing — wisecracking and offering sketchy advice — while your body lumbers around, swinging swords and gats. I love it. It’s completely bananas, but in the best way.

Body x Head mechanics: This is not your cookie-cutter FPS. You have an alliance with your own severed head, so you get snarky banter as well as gameplay surprises. You control the body; the skull yaks away, and — get this — its tentacle works as a grappling hook. It’s like Pirates of the Caribbean plus voice-in-your-head plus, I dunno, Metroidvania hooks? Oh, and the game apparently encourages you to take risks and trigger chaos with special fusion loot mechanics. Want loot? Sure, but it comes with teeth.

Surreal Underworld: The game world isn’t some boring old Caribbean. It’s nine floating islands, blasted apart, drifting on a sea of clouds.

One minute you’re slashing cursed souls, the next there’s a kraken (presumably) trying to squish you. I’d probably get lost, but apparently that’s half the fun.

Instant Action: Expect gunplay, sword-fighting, and using your grappling-skull to swing around. I watched part of a gameplay demo and it was nonstop: slash, shoot, grapple, repeat. If you just want to vibe and collect stuff, there’s treasure chests everywhere — but opening one can spawn a monster. Risk and reward, baby.

Your Ship is a Whale: No, really. Your base is “Abby,” a half-whale, half-warship. She’s also your artillery, with stacked cannons and a weird personality. You recruit legendary pirate officers throughout the game — maybe even Blackbeard himself, if you’re lucky or unlucky, hard to say at this point.

Become the Devil(?!): The whole thing pivots around you reclaiming lost artifacts and growing in power until, if you’re stubborn enough, you get to “become the devil himself.” That’s, like, comically ambitious. It’s not just “get revenge” — it’s “transform into a cosmic evil.” Go big or go home, apparently.

Davy X Jones Early Access

Look, I’m usually skeptical about Early Access releases, but this one? I think they actually know what they’re doing. The devs — Parasight, who made BLACKTAIL — have a knack for taking weird ideas and polishing them into something fun. The demo got mixed reviews, but people who stuck with it said it was “definitely creative, if not batshit crazy.” If you want tidy polish… maybe circle back in a few months. If you want creative chaos right now, just dive in like an unhinged pirate.

Actually, now that I think about it: why aren’t more games doing head-body partnerships? They should. And will this game have co-op? Saw someone beg for it in the comments, but honestly, I kind of hope not. Some adventures you gotta tackle solo, you know? Unless you want to be the severed head, nagging your friend.
