Kaiju No. 8 The Game Release Date, Platforms, and Launch Details

Kaiju No. 8 The Game Release Date

Kaiju No. 8 The Game launched globally for mobile (Android/iOS) on August 31, 2025 and if you’re a PC purist, you’ll get to smash kaiju on Steam starting October 1, 2025. Not every day a manga gets a full-blown RPG adaptation, right? The hype was real; my social feeds had early birds sharing first impressions, and I’ll admit, more than a few folks had their download buttons primed like sentinels defending Tokyo.

When the Monsters Arrived

August 31, 2025: That’s the magic date when kaiju finally stormed your screens for real. Mobile gamers got first dibs, and the crowd went wild probably a little too wild. Picture this: the Discord group I’m in, normally chill, went full DEFCON 1 at midnight. Six of us tried logging in at 12:04 AM JST, and only three survived the login queue. My buddy Akira nearly broke his phone trying to snatch the five-star pre-registration reward, which, for the record, he claims is worth every ounce of stress. Can't say I blame him.

PC Steam Release: The Wait Was Real

If mobile gaming isn’t your jam, October 1 was the day circled in neon on every Steam wishlist. It had me nostalgic like those old Monster Hunter launches, when everyone was counting down days in group chats. Kaiju No. 8 for PC adds those high-res kaiju models, fancier textures, and a chance for mouse-and-keyboard fans to live their best kaiju-hunting lives. The Steam page had a “planned release date: Sep 30, 2025” for ages, but at last, news dropped, and October 1 is official.

A Game That Feels Big

So what’s the deal with this game? It’s a free-to-play RPG, turn-based combat, massive storylines, and fully voiced cutscenes. There are original story modes, “Kaiju Dimensional Gates,” and enough epic kaiju battles to keep your thumbs busy for weeks. In the beginning, most players were comparing it to classic JRPGs, it’s got those anime-style strategies and a decent bit of grinding. I lost a weekend already (no regrets).

A few things I personally dig:

  • The voice cast is top-tier, feels like watching the anime between battles.

  • Turn-based combat is more tactical than I expected; timing your super moves feels really satisfying.

  • Lots of manga callbacks, cheeky references, and side stories (I caught a Kafka joke in a random dialogue event, and nearly spat out my coffee).

The Numbers (And Some Friendly Bragging Rights)

Pre-registration rewards were wild, 850,000 signups, and people were hustling for that first five-star character. At launch, the game scored over 3 million downloads in two weeks on mobile alone, and word is spreading fast on Reddit and Discord groups. Not to flex, but I did get the limited “Numbers Weapon 6” outfit for Reno Ichikawa (turns out, it’s mostly for bragging rights at this point).
