Far Cry Multiplayer: What to Expect in Far Cry 7’s Online and Co-Op Modes

Far Cry Multiplayer

Absolutely, Far Cry has always dabbled in multiplayer, sometimes awkwardly, sometimes brilliantly, and sometimes with a shrug from half the player base who miss just wandering solo with a flamethrower and a questionable plan. I still remember the days in Far Cry 3, coaxing a friend into the co-op missions, only for us both to end up in a helicopter, arguing over who gets to crash it first. Multiplayer was never the main event, but it was there like a weird sidecar on a big narrative motorcycle.

Fast-forward to today, and there’s a lot of heat around Ubisoft’s push for more multiplayer in Far Cry 7. “Multiplayer? In my single-player vacation-from-reality game?” I muttered, reading the CEO’s promises about a heavier multiplayer focus. Apparently, the aim is to keep players coming back for months, not just for a weekend binge. (Cue a nervous glance at my calendar, what if I don’t want to play every Tuesday at 7 pm for a weekly loot reset?) Ubisoft sounds committed, though. “More predominantly pushed,” they said. Sounds like the kind of phrase my old gym teacher used when no one wanted to do extra laps.

Let’s be honest, there are good times to be had. The joy of causing chaos with two or three friends, planning an outpost assault that gets blown to bits in less than five seconds, and blaming each other for everything. The problem is, a lot of us worry the single-player DNA might get diluted by season passes, battle royale ambitions, and just… live service stuff. Someone joked, “Far Cry has become a far cry from Far Cry,” and I felt that.

Multiplayer in Far Cry is a mixed bag, sometimes potato chips, sometimes cold French fries, and we all know which one we want more of. If Ubisoft finds a way to keep single-player strong and gives us meaningful co-op, I’ll celebrate. If it’s just custom skins and microtransactions, I might go rogue and start a one-man rebellion in-game, yelling at clouds and explosive barrels. Sparingly, multiplayer can work in Far Cry. But gamers are watching closely, hoping the heart doesn’t get lost along the way.
