Frosthaven Early Access Update: “Awakening Protocol” Feels Like a True Game-Changer
October isn’t exactly famous for peaceful weather or calm schedules, and if you’re a Frosthaven fan, it’s about to get even wilder. The much-anticipated “Awakening Protocol” update is finally hitting Early Access on October 23, and chances are, it’s the most excitement you’ll have this side of a runaway robot crisis.
A Genuinely Fresh Adventure
Yes, a new chunk of story is dropping, and it’s actually a dramatic shift. The Unfettered, a not-so-friendly collection of rusting machines, are rising under a mysterious leader. I love it when a campaign suddenly throws a curveball, and this one has me imagining the party arguing about whether our healer knows how to fix circuits. The sense of a forgotten society awaking for payback? It’s ominous and, honestly, cool in that “narrator voice goes dramatic” kind of way.
New Heroes to Try and Probably Fail With
The update introduces three new playable heroes, and if you’re anything like me, the first session is just fiddling with builds and laughing at how badly you mess up their special moves. Testing out classes always leads to accidental teamwork, like the time our wizard tripped a boss trap early but insisted it was “for science.” Each new class is supposed to bring whole new layers of strategy, meaning meta chasers will have their work cut out for them.
Alongside new faces in the roster, there are five new bosses. “New horrors,” the devs call them and knowing Frosthaven, they’ll be just the right mix of clever and mildly infuriating. More than eighteen fresh quests mean more chances to take risks, and, if you’re in my crew, more opportunities to quote action movies while someone inevitably forgets to bring healing items.
