Adin Hill Injury Update: Golden Knights Face Goaltending Test After Lower-Body Setback

Adin Hill Injury Update

Adin Hill’s lower-body injury has the Vegas Golden Knights holding their breath right now. It happened in Tuesday night’s 4–2 win over the Calgary Flames a game that somehow ended in celebration but started with a scare. Colleen (@HockeyGirlsPod) reported on X( Twitter) that Adin Hill is currently out of action due to a lower-body injury.

Hill took a shot up high from Flames forward Matt Coronato that literally knocked his mask off.

Jesse Granger (@JesseGranger_) shared a remarkable moment on X ( Twitter), highlighting how Adin Hill took a shot off his mask that knocked it off his face. Despite losing his mask, Hill managed to stop another shot before the play was blown dead.

Before anyone could blink, another blast from Rasmus Andersson caught him in the leg or knee area. He got up, shook it off like the tough guy he is, and finished the first period. But after that? No dice. He didn’t return to the ice, and now we’re all left guessing just how serious this thing might be.

Head coach Bruce Cassidy didn’t sound overly optimistic afterward. He called it a lower-body injury and admitted he wasn’t sure of the severity. That’s coach-speak for: “we’re waiting, and we really hope this isn’t bad.” And honestly, it couldn’t have come at a worse time. Vegas is already banged up. Noah Hanifin’s been out since the season opener, Brett Howden's day-to-day, and the defense hasn’t looked quite as sharp as last year. Losing Hill for any stretch throws another wrench in the works.

You can’t overstate how valuable Hill’s been. Last season, he was electric. A 2.47 goals-against average, four shutouts, and some downright ridiculous saves that made fans chant his name. That performance earned him a six-year, $37.5 million extension, not bad for a guy who helped bring home the franchise’s first Stanley Cup. So yeah, seeing him fall awkwardly after the puck to the knee? Rough moment.

Enter Akira Schmid. The 23-year-old came in cold against Calgary and didn’t flinch. He stopped 19 of 21 shots, including a huge save late in the second period that should’ve been an easy tap-in. That kind of poise might’ve quieted some nerves around T-Mobile Arena, at least for the night. When it was all said and done, Eichel led the comeback charge, Vegas scored three unanswered goals, and Schmid held down the fort to seal the win. Not a bad debut for the new guy.

The plan now seems straightforward enough. Schmid’s going to get his shot as the starter for however long Hill sits. Carl Lindbom, the talented but untested Swedish prospect, will probably get the call from Henderson for backup duties. But there’s this… lingering rumor floating around Carter Hart. Yeah, that Carter Hart. The former Flyers goalie is eligible to sign now, but can’t play until December. You can see the dilemma here: do you trust a rookie tandem or make a move that’ll spark all kinds of debate? General Manager Kelly McCrimmon doesn’t exactly have cap room to burn, sitting just above $300k in space. So, whatever he does, it’ll take some creative juggling.

But for now, all eyes are on Hill’s health. If it’s just a tweak, okay. Crisis averted. If it’s serious, this could snowball fast for a Knights team trying to stay at the top of the Pacific. Vegas fans know this feeling too well. Elite goaltending has been their backbone since day one. Losing Hill for an extended stretch would sting. But one thing’s for sure: if Schmid keeps playing like he did Tuesday night, the kid might just make this story a little less gloomy.
