Alijah Vera Tucker Injury Update
Alijah Vera-Tucker’s season is in serious jeopardy after he suffered what the New York Jets and just about every reputable outlet are reporting as a torn triceps in his left arm during Tuesday’s practice—yeah, the same injury that cost him most of 2022, but on the opposite arm this time, which feels bitterly ironic.
Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) reported on Twitter that, according to sources, the New York Jets fear guard Alijah Vera-Tucker has suffered a season-ending torn triceps injury.
Jordan Schultz (@Schultz_Report) reported on Twitter that sources believe Jets guard Alijah Vera-Tucker will miss the entire 2025 season due to a triceps injury that will require surgery.
Right now, Vera-Tucker is chasing a second opinion to see if surgery’s absolutely unavoidable, but everyone’s bracing for the worst: likely lost for the year right as he was gearing up not only to anchor the Jets’ shaky O-line but also kicking off his last chance to score a major contract extension as he finishes the rookie deal he was drafted into four years ago.
The guy should be relaxing as a newly anointed team captain and locker room leader—instead, he’s stuck in the medical carousel, while the locker room has to process losing their best lineman right before the Steelers opener, and the fans are groaning about the so-called “Jets curse” (honestly, can’t blame them at this point).
Even if he does return, it’s a huge shake-up for the depth chart; Xavier Newman, Joe Tippmann, and freshly signed Josh Myers will be scrambling for spots, but nobody really replaces AVT, who played 15 mostly healthy games last season after two straight years on the rehab treadmill.
On a personal note, if there was ever a guy you root for because he keeps getting up after getting knocked down—seriously, torn triceps, a ruptured Achilles, and then this—Vera-Tucker is it. Don’t count on seeing him again soon, but if history’s any guide, he’ll be back, and he’ll keep fighting. For now, though, the Jets just lost their safest bet on the offensive line—again.
