Madison Maidenberg and Joe Ferrucci from Love Is Blind Season 9 have officially called it quits and honestly, the way it unfolded sounds straight out of a Netflix subplot that didn’t quite make it to the final draft. Their breakup, which fans saw in Episode 11, wasn’t exactly spontaneous. Madison later revealed on the Love To See It podcast that they had already broken up the night before that now-infamous on-camera “closure” moment. In short: the tears were real, but the timing? A bit staged.
Once the cameras were off, Madison and Joe’s reasons for parting seemed far messier. In interviews, Joe admitted he started feeling off right before their wedding dress and tux fittings, describing a “crash” of emotions where he realized that Madison just wasn’t his person. He told Us Weekly that continuing would’ve felt “disingenuous” because somewhere between the pods and the real world, the spark had shifted.
Madison, for her part, didn’t hold back about how heartbreaking that revelation was. She said it took her months to stop idealizing him that she’d been in love with the version of Joe from the pods, not the uncertain and anxious man she came to know afterward. She even said she took off her engagement ring mid-conversation once she realized things were “done for real”.
While both seem to want peace, their split carried real emotion not reality TV fluff. Madison later shared that Joe’s comment about preferring “petite women” deeply affected her confidence, even contributing to an eating disorder struggle she’s since worked through in therapy. Joe later said hearing that made him rethink his own words.
