Brock Purdy Injury Update: Back in Action for 49ers

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is set to make his triumphant return to the starting lineup this Sunday in Week 11 against the Arizona Cardinals, after sidelining himself for most of the season due to a stubborn turf toe injury. On X, @Coach_Yac shared great news that Brock Purdy (toe) is back at practice after yesterday's "aggressive practice" and is on track to play against the Cardinals.

The 25-year-old signal-caller, who's been a cornerstone of the team's offense since his rookie days, first tweaked the toe in Week 1 alongside a nagging shoulder issue, forcing him to miss Weeks 2 and 3 entirely. He gutted it out for a brief return in Week 4 but aggravated the injury badly enough to sit out the next six games, including last week's matchup, where he was dressed but ultimately inactive.

In Purdy's absence, veteran backup Mac Jones stepped up admirably, going 5-3 as a starter with a solid 13-to-6 touchdown-to-interception ratio and ranking 10th league-wide in yards per attempt. That performance kept the 49ers afloat at 6-4 and firmly in the NFC playoff hunt, sitting eighth in the conference standings.

But the team and fans have been itching for Purdy's return, given his proven track record: last season alone, he racked up 323 rushing yards (11th among QBs) and showed a more aggressive downfield arm that elevates the entire attack.

Recovery has been a grind, but Thursday's full practice participation was the green light everyone needed. Head coach Kyle Shanahan, never one to mince words, called it a no-brainer decision: "We've got a lot of confidence in Brock, and we know Brock will play at a high level too as long as he's healthy." On X, @49ersSportsTalk shared that Brock Purdy said, “I feel really good, healthy, excited to be back and ready to lead the guys,” adding that neither he nor the team considered surgery and he's ready to go.

Shanahan noted steady progress each week, with last week marking the biggest leap yet, and described Wednesday's session as an "aggressive practice" to test Purdy's limits. The QB himself has thrown just 586 yards, four TDs, and four picks in his limited two-game sample this year, but expect that mobility and deep-ball threat to click back into gear immediately.

This comeback couldn't come at a better time for a 49ers squad eyeing a deep playoff run. Purdy's health stabilizes the position, reduces turnovers (Jones struggled with efficiency at times), and lets stars like Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel feast off his precision. If he stays upright, San Francisco's ceiling skyrockets. Watch for a statement win in the desert to build momentum heading into the stretch. Fingers crossed the toe holds up; one wrong plant could derail it all, but for now, it's full steam ahead.
