Fred Warner Injury Update: 49ers Linebacker Suffers Serious Leg Injury vs Buccaneers

Fred Warner Injury Update

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fred Warner suffered a pretty nasty right leg injury in the first quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he got carted off the field with his right leg in an air cast, and honestly, it didn’t look good at all. It happened out in Tampa Bay, the kind of moment that makes you wince even if you’re only halfway paying attention, because Warner’s foot got tangled in a crowd and his leg twisted in a way you just kinda hope nobody ever has to experience. NFL insider Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) reported on X that San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner has suffered a dislocated and broken ankle, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

So far, the 49ers haven’t come out and said what exactly messed up his leg (knee, ankle, who knows right now), but he sure wasn’t coming back for the rest of the game, and you could feel how heavy that hit was. They stuck him in the tent for evaluation, and it all felt really ominous.  Dr. Evan Jeffries, DPT (@GameInjuryDoc), noted on X that 49ers linebacker Fred Warner left the game wearing an air cast on his right leg.

Warner managed just a single tackle before that unlucky play, which is wild when you consider he’s already made 28 solo tackles this season and forced a couple of fumbles, like he’s everywhere and suddenly nowhere when they needed him most.

With the team’s star players George Kittle, Ricky Pearsall, and Brock Purdy already chilling on the injury list, it was kinda the defense holding it all together for San Francisco, letting backup Mac Jones shine just enough for those recently close wins. But now, with Warner looking iffy going forward, you gotta wonder what’s next for the 49ers’ playoff hopes, especially with no official word yet and everyone biting their nails for an update.
