Garrett Wilson Injury Update
Garrett Wilson, the New York Jets’ top wide receiver, has been placed on injured reserve after aggravating his knee injury in the win over Cleveland, putting his fantasy football managers in an anxious limbo for the rest of the season. On X, the NFL announced that Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been placed on injured reserve due to a knee injury. As a result, Wilson will be sidelined for at least the next four games.
It’s not what anyone wanted to hear especially if your playoff hopes hinge on him running crisp routes in December. Wilson had initially hurt his knee back in the Week 6 loss to Denver in London, sat out Weeks 7 and 8, then had a bye week to recover.
He came back for Week 10, but the return barely lasted a half before things went sideways.Jets fans, meanwhile, are stuck in that familiar purgatory of “maybe he’ll play, maybe not,” which has unfortunately become too common around MetLife Stadium.
What Happened for Garrett Wilson
The scenario played out like a slow-motion car wreck Wilson made a diving attempt at a deep ball from Justin Fields in the third quarter, landed hard, and limped off immediately. For a few tense minutes, he was in the medical tent, then emerged to pedal the stationary bike on the sideline, clearly hoping some magic would click his knee back to normal. No dice. The pain didn’t subside, and he never returned to the field. By the next snap, he was talking things over with trainers, and not in that “I’ll tape it and go” kind of way.
Head coach Aaron Glenn summed it up after the game: “Garrett just came back down on his knee. That was the same knee that he injured before”. It was déjà vu from London all over again a low-speed, high-impact replay no one wanted. Wilson’s frustration was visible even from the stands, and those sideline glimpses of him determinedly working the stationary bike will be seared into fan memory, along with a thousand “What if?”s.
When Garrett Wilson Comeback to Play?
The soonest Wilson can return is Week 15, which is the fantasy playoffs’ opening week a big IF, though. The Jets’ IR move locks him out for at least four more games (one down, three to go), but the truth is murkier: sources and coach Aaron Glenn both point to a 3-4 week timetable, but both also admit there’s no point risking their best receiver if the season is lost.
With the Jets at 2-8 and postseason hopes kaput, some inside the building are already whispering that Wilson might just sit out the rest of the year.Glenn said, “I think he’ll play,” but the final call is up to the medical staff and perhaps the team’s front office, weighing risk versus a lost cause. If the Jets want to play things safe, Wilson gets the rest of 2025 to heal. If he’s cleared, and the front office gives the green light, Week 15 at Jacksonville is the earliest possible return.
On X, Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT (@jmthrivept) provided an update on Garrett Wilson’s injury. Wilson, placed on IR, will miss at least Weeks 11-14, and if he returns for Weeks 15-17, he’ll face the Jags, Saints, and Pats.
