Grounded 2 Update
Grounded 2 landed July 29 with that vibe gamers either love or side-eye a bit: part experimental, part nostalgic, and a whole lot of what-are-we-even-doing. I hopped into Brookhollow Park basically as soon as it dropped, and it was familiar, but not stuck in the mud. People have been buzzing about the boss fights and buggy mounts, but it’s the little changes—the tweaks to building and creature AI—that hit me.
Developers, to their credit, popped a hotfix out the gate fixing some Steam player crashes. Not earth-shattering but hey, at least they’re awake at the wheel. And real talk, the roadmap’s got three big beats: fall brings a massive tarantula boss plus some new gear and that building grid plenty of folks wished was in day one. Winter will load in rideable ladybugs and more bug variants (crickets/earwigs!), with Steam Deck and ROG Ally support tossed in. Gotta appreciate when they actually listen to the portable crowd.
People have gone hard on Instagram too—one influencer basically rode into the update shouting, “Giddy up Ant Buggy! Grounded 2 is out on Tuesday!” The energy is…honestly, contagious. You know a game hit a note when even the official team mascot, Rosie, shows up in loops just to hype launch day.
When you play, Brookhollow feels big. Like, probably too big, given early access’s spartan content in chunks. The main criticism floating around is that for all the new stuff teased, it’s pretty much Grounded—expanded. Same core. Twists on what worked. I’m thinking, if you wanted the original to get weirder, you’ll have to give it some update cycles. But the new biome zones, secrets, and especially all that buggy/vehicle stuff—can’t deny, I’m curious.

If you jump online, the #Grounded2 tag on Twitter is wild right now. Lots of players wrenching their way to the new boss, sharing bug (and, well, bug) clips, a few memes—you get the gist.
Gameplay impressions are straight-up split: Early numbers popped off on Steam, breaking fifty thousand concurrents, which smokes the original game’s all-time high. But review ratings are mixed—first-day excitement isn’t the same as long-term satisfaction.
For me, if you’re bored of the tiny backyard, maybe wait out a content update or two. If you just wanna smack spiders and argue with your co-op buddy about wall placement, it’s an easy jump-in.
The patched bugs, planned content drops, and constant community noise mean Grounded 2 is only gonna get messier and more fun from here. They’re not reinventing the aphid here, but that’s half the appeal.
