Hunter Watson Injury Update
Hunter Watson’s night ended far earlier than anyone expected, and you could feel the air shift in the stadium when the Sam Houston quarterback didn’t jog back onto the field. Late in the second quarter of Wednesday’s matchup against UTEP, Watson went down with what the team is simply calling an “undisclosed injury.” The Bearkats were hanging tough up until then, but everything seemed to unravel once their leader was out of the huddle. Backup Mabrey Mettauer took over, and to his credit, tried to keep things alive. But the energy just wasn’t the same. Everyone in the stands knew it.
The official word for now? Watson is dealing with an undisclosed issue, and early estimates suggest he could be out until around October 31. That’s just two games if the recovery goes smoothly. Given his track record, he’s fought back from knocks before, including a shoulder setback last season; no one’s counting him out. The guy’s built like he’s made of football wire and stubbornness.
There’s almost a strange calm about it. They’ve seen this story before: a few bruises, a couple of missed snaps, and then Watson comes jogging back out like he never left. Maybe that’s just hope talking, but sometimes hope’s the best playcall you’ve got when the scoreboard’s not in your favor.
