Is There A Practical Magic 2?
Oh yes, there’s definitely a Practical Magic 2 coming our way. I’ll admit, I did a little happy dance reading the news; you don’t have to be a midnight margarita fan (but it really helps) to get excited about this sequel. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are officially on board again as our lovely, slightly unconventional witch sisters, Sally and Gillian Owens. Back when the first film hit theaters in 1998, my best friend and I would pretend to cast spells on anyone who crossed us. No luck changing boys into frogs, but we did manage a few fits of giggles, so seeing this duo return feels kind of magical.
And it’s not just a quick cash grab. Original cast legends Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing (the aunts with some serious broomstick energy) are back, joined by Joey King, Maisie Williams, and Lee Pace. Honestly, I’m already imagining the epic family dinner scenes…and I hope someone brings real midnight margaritas to the premiere.

When Will Practical Magic 2 Be Released?
The big reveal: Practical Magic 2 lands in theaters September 18, 2026. Which, let’s face it, is a pretty genius time if you want your witch movie to get everyone in a fall mood (pumpkin spice latte season meets a love curse, sign me up). The release date was dropped alongside a quick teaser, and Nicole.
Kidman herself posted a behind-the-scenes clip just days after filming wrapped up. Seeing her and Sandra Bullock laughing together in a wild field was exactly what my inner teenage fan needed.
So mark your calendar, set a spell reminder, and maybe rewatch the original in the meantime, I know I will.
What to Expect in Practical Magic 2?
Here’s the juicy part: Practical Magic 2 is set to pick up the Owens family story, drawing on Alice Hoffman’s sequel novel, "The Book of Magic". In short?
-
The family curse is still causing trouble, but Sally and Gillian, as well as their magical aunts, are determined to break it with help from some new, younger witches.
-
Expect themes about sisterhood, embracing quirks, and celebrating family even all the weird, wild, and messy bits.
-
Word is, Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have the same lovable, teasing chemistry. (She apparently teases Nicole more than anyone else and calls their friendship “insane,” in the best way.)
Producer Denise Di Novi promises they'll keep the spirit, humor, and warmth of the original. And yes: there will be midnight margaritas. There’s something comforting about returning to a story that reminds us magic can be found in friendships, family, and, occasionally, a really good lime.
