Jayden Reed Injury Update
Jayden Reed’s night took a sudden and unwelcome turn just a few plays into the Packers’ “Thursday Night Football” game against the Washington Commanders. Talk about rough timing for a fan favorite. After dealing with a foot injury all week in practice, it wasn’t nagging soreness that ended his night, but a shoulder injury suffered on a gutsy deep grab down the right sideline. @jmthrivept shared on Twitter that Jayden Reed is dealing with a right shoulder issue, expressing concern that it could involve both the AC joint and labrum.
Another tweet from @RapSheet reported on Twitter that Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed, who injured his shoulder and went straight to the X-ray room.
There’s something about football that reminds us the best-laid plans last about as long as a kickoff sometimes, right? He was slow to get up after that catch in the end zone, and the crowd held its breath, thinking maybe, just maybe, he’d walk it off. But instead, Reed, Green Bay’s top wideout last year with 55 catches, 857 yards, and six touchdown grabs that had fans buzzing, made his way to the sideline. Not long after, the Packers ruled him out for the rest of the night.
That stings, not just for the scoreboard, but for anyone who loves watching Reed put on a show. It’s hard not to feel that little twist in your gut when the guy who made Lambeau light up last season is suddenly on the sideline with his helmet off. For those wondering what this does to the Packers’ offense, Reed is one of several wide receivers active tonight, so look for Romeo Doubs, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams, and Malik Heath to get extra looks.
But, if you ask most cheeseheads, they’ll tell you none of those guys quite fill Reed’s cleats. The trainers and everyone in the stadium will wait for more info. Of course, shoulder injuries can be tricky, coming from someone who once tried to throw a snowball over a fence and woke up the next morning unable to brush his teeth without wincing.
For now, the Packers’ offense will have to find a new rhythm and hope Jayden isn’t on the sideline for long. Just one more reminder that in football, expectations get rewritten on every snap, and anything, especially the health of a star receiver, can change in a heartbeat.
