Jaydon Blue Injury Update
Rookie running back Jaydon Blue did, in fact, take the field for the Dallas Cowboys this preseason—making his much-anticipated debut after being selected in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Texas.
The buzz leading up to Friday’s preseason finale against Atlanta was all about finally getting a real look at his game speed and vision against NFL competition.
Blue managed to score his first touchdown in a Cowboys uniform, promising news for fans hoping he’d bring some firepower to a running back room searching for a breakout.
But things quickly got tense: after several hard-fought carries, Blue suffered an ankle injury in the second half and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
While the specific post-game evaluations haven’t all been released, initial reports from the team and local media suggest the injury may not be season-altering.
Blue was able to walk off, and the Cowboys’ staff noted he’ll undergo further evaluations before a long-term timeline is established. In the context of preseason, where the goal for most teams is to avoid losing contributors before games count, this is the kind of scare no one wants. But so far, the outlook appears more hopeful than dire.
For a runner who missed earlier preseason snaps with a heel/ankle concern, the Cowboys will especially want to be cautious ahead of the September 4 season opener.

The most memorable snap? A short-yardage plunge in the red zone for his first professional touchdown, showing some of that competitive juice he was known for in Austin. If you watched the play, you could see his confidence—the way he lowered his shoulders at the goal line made it clear he’s not afraid to get physical.
Across camp and preseason, Blue’s speed and pass-catching ability stood out. Reports from Oxnard mention his quick cuts, acceleration through the hole, and comfort on checkdowns from the QBs. While his stat line wasn’t video-game level, the upside for a mid-round rookie is still there. Fantasy football “dart throw” or not, he’s flashing traits that make him a real candidate for snaps as the regular season approaches.
