Lachlan Galvin Injury Update: Bulldogs Halfback Faces Ankle Injury After Shock Loss

Lachlan Galvin Injury Update

Lachlan Galvin, now with the Bulldogs, got hit with some bad luck recently, dealing with both a hand and ankle injury. It’s not been completely clear how bad they are yet, but he’s been in for scans to see the extent of the damage.

The timing—just as the Bulldogs are scrambling for a secure finals spot—couldn’t be worse. Word from the club is he’s probably sitting out for a week or two, though he’s pushing to stay off the sideline if the doctors give him the green light. Some fans on Reddit reckon the hand injury happened when he botched a catch after a break, and his ankle took a twist in a grubber kick. No official word yet, but everyone’s waiting for the scan results this week.

On Twitter, @nrlphysio reports Lachlan Galvin may miss the Bulldogs' game this weekend due to a hand injury.

What Happened to Lachlan Galvin?

Galvin picked up the injuries during the Bulldogs’ last NRL game. Details are fuzzy, as sometimes happens with in-game knocks. He’s been playing through niggles for a few weeks, according to those close to the team, but whatever happened on the field last match was enough for the club’s medical staff to act fast. By Sunday evening, he’d left the ground with his hand and ankle both iced.

It’s a tough break for the 20-year-old, who’s quickly become one of Canterbury’s key men. Galvin, who’s been a revelation since joining from Wests Tigers in May, has barely missed a beat in his first few outings for the Dogs—looking comfortable in the halves and even snagging a try on debut.

On Twitter, @Danny_Weidler reports Lachie Galvin has undergone scans for both hand and ankle injuries:

Who is Lachlan Galvin?

Galvin is 20 now, from Campbelltown, NSW, and already making headlines in rugby league. He grew up backing Parramatta but played his juniors at Eaglevale-St Andrews Magpies before the Eels cut him from their academy. The Tigers snapped him up on a shoestring, and it paid off—they made him a key part of their NRL rebuild, and he delivered: captained the Australian Schoolboys, made his NRL debut in March 2024, and scored tries off the bench.

Galvin’s a five-eighth or halfback—versatile, aggressive, not flashy but an instinctive footballer. Standout stats, too: 37 NRL appearances by mid-2025, with 7 tries, 10 try assists, over 1,800 run metres this season. For someone who only left school two years ago, that’s massive.

Lachlan Galvin Height

He’s freakishly tall for a playmaker: 1.93m and 85kg. It makes him a real weapon carrying the ball, especially when the defensive line is set and he can offload or kick under pressure.

Lachlan Galvin Salary

The contract story’s something else. The Tigers dangled a golden carrot—nearly $6 million over five years, easily $1 million-plus per season—but Galvin spat it. Instead, he’s agreed to about $750,000 per year at Canterbury, locked in through the end of the 2028 season, turning down $2 million extra for a shot at what he thinks will be a happier, more consistent career with the Bulldogs. That’s big trust in himself and honestly, a rare move for a young player.
