Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Release Date
Metroid Prime 4 Beyond is set to release on December 4, 2025. It will launch on both the Nintendo Switch and the new Switch 2. This marks the end of a long wait that began back in 2017 when the project was first announced.
At first, Bandai Namco Studios worked on it. In 2019, Nintendo handed it to Retro Studios after progress stalled. This restart gave the series a fresh push, with longtime producer Kensuke Tanabe staying involved.
In June 2024, fans finally saw the first trailer and learned the official title, Beyond. The game follows Samus Aran on a new mission to the planet Viewros after a fight with her rival, Sylux. The trailer showed Samus in a dusty alien world, using both her classic weapons and new psychic powers to survive.

Nintendo shared more footage in September 2025. It showed the Vi O La, a motorcycle Samus can ride across open areas. Players can use speed boosts, slide past enemies, and destroy ore deposits. This feature shifts the gameplay between high-speed action and classic exploration. When Samus gets off the bike, the view returns to the first-person perspective fans know.
The story picks up after Samus crashes on Viewros, a world filled with ruins and strange technology. She develops psychic powers that let her move objects, redirect attacks, and solve puzzles. The new gameplay also includes scan mechanics and energy manipulation that tie back to the series’ traditions.
The latest trailers revealed that Beyond keeps the familiar Metroid Prime tone. It mixes combat, puzzles, and exploration but now adds more open areas and environmental detail. Boss fights look intense, and the Switch 2 version adds better graphics and smoother controls using mouse-like Joy Con movements.
Development took nearly a decade, and the final result blends the series’ roots with new features. Fans who grew up with Metroid Prime 1 to 3 will find familiar mechanics but a fresh setting and style. For newcomers, it’s a full action exploration game ready for both handheld and console players.
Nintendo has said this will be one of its final big releases for 2025, ending the year on a major note. After years of silence and speculation, Metroid Prime 4 Beyond is finally real, and it arrives this December on both Switch systems.
