Omarion Hampton Injury Update
Man, if you’re a Chargers fan or you’ve got Omarion Hampton stashed on your fantasy roster, this one stings a bit. It all went down in Week 5 against Washington. Hampton was running a route out of the backfield when things went sideways literally. A defender clipped him, and next thing you know, he’s hobbling off the field, then spotted later in a walking boot on that left ankle. Not exactly the sight you want midseason.
Jeff Mueller, PT, DPT, shared on X that Omarion Hampton was seen limping and favoring his left foot after being clipped by a defender during his route.
At first, there was a dash of optimism. Maybe a couple of weeks, some rehab, and he’d be back breaking tackles again. But that hope kind of evaporated once the Chargers placed him on injured reserve. That locked him out for a minimum of four games and even that’s starting to look optimistic. Reports from sources like Mike Garafolo are now saying Hampton probably won’t be ready by Week 10 either. In fact, with the Chargers getting a bye in Week 12, a Week 13 return might be the safest bet. My Mind Is A Weapon FF shared on X that Omarion Hampton's injury is expected to keep him out until Week 10. With the Chargers also having a bye in Week 12, a potential return for Hampton could be in Week 13.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh hit the right note, calling Hampton a “special player,” but he made it clear they’re not rushing the kid. And honestly, that’s probably the right call. Especially with Najee Harris already out for the season, there’s no need to gamble on another long-term loss.
In the meantime, expect the Chargers to stay active in the trade market before the November 4 deadline. Don’t be shocked if Kimani Vidal or Hassan Haskins pick up more work. But yeah Omarion’s breakout season? It’s on pause for now.
