Padayappa Re Release Date
Padayappa is coming back to theatres on 12 December 2025. The re release is planned in 4K with upgraded sound for Rajinikanth’s 75th birthday and 50 years in cinema.
PVR Cinemas has posted a tweet about the Padayappa re-release.
The new version will release worldwide on the same day. Trade reports and official posts say it is a full remaster with 4K visuals plus modern audio mix. The team has positioned it as a big screen event after many years without frequent TV telecasts.
Rajinikanth spoke about this re release in a special video called The Return of Padayappa. He said the film has a very personal place in his career because he produced it himself and came up with the story plus the title. He recalled how Padayappa created huge craze in 1999 and mentioned that he had never seen women fans break theatre gates for any other film in his 50 years in cinema.
He also explained why they protected the film all these years. Rajinikanth said Padayappa was not given to regular satellite or OTT platforms and was mostly limited to select screenings and a Sun Pictures run. In his words this is a film that must be watched in theatres and he told fans they will get that chance again on 12 December on his birthday.
In the same video Rajinikanth shared one more update that thrilled fans. He confirmed that a sequel idea is in active discussion with the working title Neelambari Padayappa 2 based on Ramya Krishnan’s famous revenge line from the first part. He said the team is still developing the story and added that if it shapes up well it will be another Padayappa level film that gives a festival like celebration for fans.
Overall his reaction to the re release is warm and emotional. He called Padayappa a legacy film that came during the 25th year of his career and now returns 25 years later for his 50th year in cinema and his 75th birthday. He thanked fans for their long support and framed the 12 December re release as a return gift from him and his team to the audience that made the film a classic.
