Punjab School Timings Smog
Punjab is facing thick smog this October. The air is heavy with pollution. The government is worried about kids breathing bad air in the morning. So they changed the timing for all schools across Punjab. The new school timing started from Monday, October 27, 2025.
Now, schools start at 8:45 in the morning. They close at 1:30 in the afternoon. On Fridays, school ends at 12:30. Some schools run in two shifts. For those, the first shift goes from 8:45 to 1:30. The second shift runs from 1:00 to 4:00. Teachers get to school a little earlier, around 8:30, and stay until 2:00. On Fridays, they finish at 12:30.
This change is for all public and private schools. The rule will last till April 15, 2026, or until things get better. The education department says district heads can adjust by fifteen minutes if needed.
The reason is simple. Smog is worst in the morning. The air is full of tiny particles that are bad for breathing. Kids are more at risk because their lungs are still growing. Health experts say kids can get cough, trouble breathing, or eye problems. Schools also got told to skip outdoor sports and keep classrooms aired out. Some doctors say parents should send kids with masks if possible.
Lahore is one of the hardest hit cities. The Air Quality Index there crossed 400. That is called hazardous. Many parts of Punjab are close to this level. Pollution comes from cars, factories, dust, and burning old crops. With cold air, everything stays trapped near the ground.
The government says changing school times is a way to lower health risks. It is not a solution to the smog itself. It just tries to make mornings safer for students and teachers. Most parents agree with the step but say fighting pollution needs stronger action.
For now, school life in Punjab is running on a new clock. The hope is that fewer kids will get sick. But everyone knows the real fix means cleaner air for good.
