Quinyon Mitchell Injury Update – Eagles Hamstring Status, Return News

Quinyon Mitchell Injury Update

Quinyon Mitchell’s hamstring injury is the kind of news that makes Eagles fans collectively groan partly from sympathy, partly from disbelief. The rookie corner, who’s quickly become a defensive cornerstone, tweaked his hamstring during that rough Week 6 loss to the Giants. He tried to shake it off, but after just 13 snaps, he limped off and never returned. Hamstring injuries are tricky; they have that annoying way of lingering long after you think you’re fine. I once pulled mine playing pickup basketball,  thought I’d walk it off couldn’t sit without wincing for a week. So yeah, Mitchell sitting out was the right call.

On Twitter, @AndrewDiCecco reported that Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell, dealing with a hamstring issue, was present at the start of practice.

This week, the updates are cautiously optimistic. Mitchell was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice, which sounds encouraging, although “limited” could mean anything from light jogging to watching drills from a folding chair. Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, never one for false hope, said it “remains to be seen” whether Mitchell can go against the Vikings. Translation: don’t bet the house on it, but don’t panic yet either. The Eagles have been trying to patch together their secondary, and if he’s sidelined again, Adoree Jackson and Kelee Ringo will likely form the corner duo. That pairing gave fans plenty of heartburn against the Giants, so here’s hoping Fangio finds something to calm the nerves on defense.

On Twitter, @Tim_McManus reported that Quinyon Mitchell is warming up for practice. It would be significant if he plays against Justin Jefferson and the Vikings.

The timing really couldn’t be worse. The Eagles need a bounce-back after dropping two straight, and facing Justin Jefferson with a banged-up secondary feels like walking into a thunderstorm holding a metal pole. Still, there’s good energy around the team this week Jalen Carter and Landon Dickerson were both spotted warming up, and the vibe at practice was said to be “cautiously fired up.” Maybe the bye week after Week 8 will finally give everyone a breather.

If Mitchell plays, it’ll be a boost of confidence for a defense desperate for stability. If not, maybe it’s wiser to rest him because if you lose your legs this early in the season, it’s a long road back. Either way, keep that hamstring iced, Quinyon. Philly’s counting on you.
