Sauce Gardner Injury Update
Sauce Gardner is in concussion protocol after leaving the Jets' Week 7 loss to the Panthers. He did not practice on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
The injury occurred late in the fourth quarter during the 13-6 defeat. Gardner was evaluated for a head injury and ruled out for the rest of the game.
Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Gardner entered the NFL’s concussion protocol. He must clear all steps and get approval from an independent neurologist before returning.
Gardner, 25, has missed games due to concussions before. He sat out one game in 2023 under the same protocol.
His status for Week 8 against the Bengals remains uncertain. If he can’t play, Jarvis Brownlee is expected to start in his place.
The Jets are already struggling at 0-7 this season. Losing their top cornerback adds more pressure on the defense.
Gardner is the NFL’s highest-paid cornerback after signing a $120.4 million extension. He was a Pro Bowler in 2022 and 2023, making his presence critical.
The team faces Joe Flacco and the Bengals’ strong passing attack. Without Gardner, covering Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins becomes much harder.
He walked to the locker room on his own after the injury. No further updates were given beyond his non-participation in midweek practice.
The Jets have another game before their Week 9 bye. There is no indication yet that he will be ruled out for longer than Week 8.
His absence, along with Garrett Wilson’s knee issue, weakens both sides of the ball. New York’s defense needs him back as soon as possible.
