School Holidays on 18 August 2025

Today, August 18, many schools in several states have remained closed. As of now, Kerala, Karnataka, Chandigarh, and Ujjain have issued notifications for school closures. Students in other states are advised to check for further updates and announcements.

School Holiday in Jammu

All government and private schools in the Jammu Division are closed on 18 August 2025 due to inclement weather, including flash floods and a recent cloudburst. Union Territory's education department announced this descision on sunday. 

School Holiday in Kerala

In Thrissur District, all educational institutions—including schools, professional colleges, CBSE, ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centres—are closed on 18 August 2025 as a precaution against heavy rainfall. The Onam exam scheduled for today has been postponed; a new date will be announced soon.

School Holiday in Karnataka

A red alert for heavy rain has led to the closure of schools in multiple districts of Karnataka. In Chikkamagaluru, Anganwadis, primary and high schools in Koppa, Kalasa, Mudigere, Sringeri, and N.R. Pura taluks, along with those in Avathi, Jagara, Vastare, Alduru, and Khandya hoblis, have been shut. Similarly, in Shivamogga, all schools and colleges are closed as a precautionary measure.

In Hassan, educational institutions including Anganwadis, primary and high schools in Sakaleshpur and Belur taluks, as well as K. Hoskote hobli of Alur taluk, remain shut. Additionally, in Dakshina Kannada, including Udupi, several reports confirm that schools up to high school level have been closed due to the same red alert warning.

School Holiday in Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh)

In Ujjain, schools and colleges are closed on 18 August 2025 due to the royal procession of Baba Mahakal Ji. The holiday provides a long weekend for students, parents, and teachers.

School Holiday in Chandigarh

All schools and educational institutions (government, government-aided, and private) in Chandigarh are closed on Monday, 18 August 2025. The holiday was announced by Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during the Independence Day event on 15 August 2025. Academic and administrative activities will resume on Tuesday, 19 August.
