Is Snapchat Getting Rid of Memories?
Nope, Snapchat isn’t axing Memories, but it is about to start owning the keys to the storage closet.
That “Memories” tab, where so many of us squirrel away golden moments, is sticking around. Trust me, if Snapchat wiped every neon-doodled snap and group shot from college, there would be melodrama and revolt all over social media. Over a trillion Memories have already been saved. If they tried wholesale deletion, the app would probably melt down overnight, and every “Snapstreak” champion would become a digital ghost.
But let’s be honest, it’s a little jarring when a supposedly “ephemeral” app becomes a digital time capsule, like an attic you never clean out. I know for me, logging back in after a year away and seeing flashbacks from New Year’s Eve 2018, most of them blurry and some possibly not fit for the public, is equal parts hilarious and existential. When Is Snapchat Going to Charge for Memories?
Starting in the back half of 2025, anyone with more than 5GB of Memories think, thousands of Snaps and videos, so basically every friend who never deletes anything will need to pay up if they want to avoid losing access to their digital photo vault. Honestly, for a lot of us, 5GB is generous. But if you’re one of those people who can’t bear to delete a single Snap, let alone your “first road trip with friends” montage, it’s time to think.
Snap is calling these new charges “Memories Storage Plans." The basics:

Go over 5GB? You’ve got 12 months of grace. That’s a full year to either reminisce, download, or let’s be real, panic-archive all your content.

Options: Pay $1.99/month for 100GB if you need more, or jump into Snapchat+ (250GB at $3.99/month), or get wild with Snapchat Platinum 5TB for die-hards and proud hoarders.

Forget to act? After a year, Snapchat may start deleting the most recent stuff that pushes you over the limit, leaving your oldest Snaps safe for now.
