Retro Movie Plot
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Retro follows the life of Paarivel "Paari" Kannan, an orphan brought up in a criminal underworld by a gangster named Tilak Raj. The narrative traces Paari’s inner conflict as he navigates loyalty, grief, and a longing for transformation. With performances by Suriya and Pooja Hegde in central roles, the film attempts to blend emotional depth with gritty storytelling.
The story builds around Paari’s complex relationship with Tilak Raj’s family and his connection with Rukmini, a character bonded to him by shared trauma. As the years pass, the two characters attempt to break free from their criminal pasts, anchoring the film in themes of redemption and emotional resilience.
Retro Movie Theatrical Run and Reception

According to data from Sacnilk.com, the film collected ₹60.26 crore nett in India, with a gross domestic total of ₹70.97 crore and a worldwide gross of ₹96.97 crore. These figures place Retro among the highest-grossing films in Suriya’s career.
The film's performance was notably more subdued in Telugu-speaking regions, where it struggled to meet box office expectations despite the presence of a strong ensemble cast and high production values.
Cast of Retro Movie
