Tamin Lipsey Injury Update
Tamin Lipsey got hurt late in Iowa State’s 83 to 82 win over St Johns at the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas. He went down while contesting a shot with a little more than two minutes left and left the floor in clear pain.
Team staff later described it as a lower body injury that was then identified as a groin strain. Coaches and medical staff examined him after the game and kept his status open.
Current Injury Status
Lowa State has ruled Lipsey out for the matchup against Creighton at the festival. Coach T J Otzelberger and the school say he is day to day with the groin issue with no firm return date.
The staff has said this groin problem is separate from the one he managed at the end of last season. They want him to rest and recover without pressure to rush back.
Impact on Lowa State
Lipsey is Iowa State’s senior point guard and one of the best floor leaders in the Big 12. Through the early part of the season he has averaged about 18 points plus strong assist and steal numbers while shooting efficiently from the field.
Without him the Cyclones are using other guards to handle the ball more and start the offense. Depth and ball movement are expected to carry more of the load while he stays out.
Past Injury Context
Lipsey played through multiple issues last season including groin problems and upper body knocks. Before this season he also missed time in the preseason with a knee and MCL related injury.
Because of that history the program is being cautious now and focusing on long term health. Coaches have said his return will depend on comfort mobility and strength rather than a set game date.
