Tata Safari and Harrier Petrol Launch Date
Tata is about to launch the petrol variants of the Safari and Harrier. The official launch date is December 9, 2025. Tata has confirmed this date publicly. Both SUVs will get a brand new 1.5 litre turbocharged direct injection petrol engine. This is Tata's 'Hyperion' T-GDI engine. The diesel options will continue as before.
The new petrol engine will produce close to 170 horsepower. It will also put out 280 Nm of torque, which is strong for its class. This motor was first shown at the 2023 Auto Expo. It will debut in the Tata Sierra before arriving in the Harrier and Safari. Petrol buyers have waited for this option for years.
You can order the Harrier and Safari petrol with either a six speed manual or an automatic gearbox. The automatic will likely be a torque converter unit, though a dual clutch is also possible. Tata will reveal full gearbox details at the launch event.
With these changes, Tata's flagship SUVs now match rivals like the Mahindra XUV700, Hyundai Alcazar, MG Hector Plus and Jeep Compass. All these competing models already had petrol choices. Tata wants to fill the gap in its portfolio.
Both the Harrier and Safari are spacious. The Harrier is a five seater, and the Safari can seat up to seven. These petrol versions will appeal to buyers who avoid diesel. In some cities, diesel models face extra taxes and stricter rules.
Safety stays strong. Tata has kept all the advanced safety features. You get seven airbags, ESP, tyre pressure monitoring, electronic parking brake, auto hold, and hill hold assist. The Harrier has a Bharat NCAP five star safety rating.
The expected prices for the new petrol models should be slightly below the diesel versions. For now, the Harrier costs between about Rs 14 lakh to Rs 25.25 lakh, ex-showroom. The Safari's diesel models run from Rs 14.66 lakh to Rs 25.96 lakh. The new petrols will launch at lower prices, but Tata will share official pricing on December 9 as well.
Feature-wise, the new petrol Harrier and Safari should keep the current updates like the touchscreen system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats and digital driver cluster. The latest facelifts keep both models competitive on features.
Here is a quick run-down of the main engine specs for the new petrol option:
- Engine: 1.5 litre, 4 cylinder turbo petrol (T-GDI)
- Power: 170hp
- Torque: 280Nm
- Gearbox: Six speed manual or automatic (type TBA)
- Expected efficiency: To be announced at launch
Deliveries for both SUVs should start soon after the December launch event. Tata will roll them out across India. You will be able to book them at any Tata Motors showroom.
To sum it up, Tata is finally bringing petrol power to its big SUVs. Buyers can expect good performance, a premium feel, and better value for city or occasional highway use. The official launch will clear up any last specs, so keep an eye on Tata's announcements for the latest on booking and exact features.
