Disney Television President Craig Erwich explained that this choice was made because The Rookie's Season 7 midseason premiere worked out well for ABC. "When we start in January, we're able to run all of the episodes straight through, and it creates this kind of momentum," he noted.
ABC's Tuesday nights will become "a powerhouse night" with "The Rookie" airing alongside "Will Trent" and reruns of "High Potential." For fans who can't wait that long, the previous seven seasons offer plenty of material for a rewatch to fill the time until January 2026.
