Lynne McGranger finally claimed the Gold Logie at the 65th TV Week Logie Awards, which took place on August 3, 2025, at The Star in Sydney. It’s the biggest prize in Australian television, and honestly, it’s about time. Thirty-three years as Irene Roberts in Home and Away, she’s practically family for so many Aussie homes. After decades in TV and heaps of nominations but not quite sealing the deal, Lynne’s win just felt big. Like, historic.

People on Instagram couldn’t hold in their excitement. One post with a crowd shot read, "LYNNE FREAKIN' MCGRANGER!!! She's only gone and bloody done it — GOLD LOGIE," getting hundreds of comments and likes the night of the awards.

Lynne McGranger Gold Logie Speech
Lynne McGranger's speech was kinda legendary for a lot of reasons. When Lynne took the stage, she beamed, “33 years, I’ve done this amazing show. And I am thrilled and honoured.” Instead of going all teary, she cracked a joke: “Before I forget, this is going to be pride of place next to my 1974 Wagga Wagga Drama Festival Best Actress. And it’s true, it’s true. That’s when I went, ‘This acting thing is kind of good! Maybe I will be better at it than I am at teaching.'”
She gave a nod to every other nominee—especially the “fierce women of all ages”—but Lynne’s vibe was honestly more, “if you stick around long enough and keep at it, you can make something happen.” Then she ended with a wink at Hamish Blake (another nominee, and past winner), calling him a “brave man, darl.” It was a classic Lynne mix: part cheeky, part inspiring, part just grateful to do the work.

Who is Lynne McGranger?
Lynne McGranger, born in 1953, started as a primary school teacher, and made her debut in shows like West Side Story first. Her big break came in 1993, with a short guest stint in Home and Away that no one expected would last. But by October of that year, she’d become a full-timer and, honestly, TV royalty ever since.
You think Irene Roberts, you think wild storylines—addictions, cancer, being a foster mum—and it all felt real with Lynne behind it. She eventually became the longest-serving female cast member in Australian soap history and was even ranked second among the “100 Greatest Australian TV Characters” by TV Week in 2023.
Lynne’s also got a few other claims to fame: she wrote a bestselling memoir in 2021, she was on Dancing with the Stars, and has been nominated for plenty of awards before finally nabbing the Gold Logie. She announced her departure from Home and Away in February 2025, with her final episodes set to air later this month. There’s already buzz about her returning to the stage next, so she’s not slowing down one bit.
