Why is Chance Leaving Young and Restless? Did Chance Die on Young and The Restless? Know Everything About the Character

Who is Chance on the Young and Restless?

Chance Chancellor-guy’s full name is Phillip Robert “Chance” Chancellor IV has been part of Young and the Restless since 1988, but the current version people know was played by Conner Floyd. He’s the classic legacy character, son of Nina Webster and Phillip Chancellor III, so there’s loads of soap family drama loaded into his DNA. Came back to Genoa City as a detective in 2021; military past, big-time baggage, but a steady dude in the middle of everyone else’s chaos. He’s worked the big cases, survived messy love stories, and sort of always hovered at the edge of the show’s main action.

For a while, felt like the writers never really knew what to do with him-he’d show up when there was a major case or pull one of those “good guy to the end” moves, but never quite owned center stage

One quick scroll through the show’s official Instagram, and there are a lot of fans reminiscing about "Chance moments," some even dropping old clips or shoutouts. He’s basically the kind of character you root for even when his stories stall out.

So this didn’t come out of nowhere, but still hit fans hard. Conner Floyd, who’d been Chance since 2021, just hit the end of his contract. Turns out, he’s not just leaving for a beach vacation: he landed a new gig as Chad DiMera on Days of Our Lives. That bit was announced in July 2025, and fans picked up on it real fast-it always means a soap character’s days are numbered.

The show sent him off with the typical tragic soap twist. In the July 28 episode, during a messy standoff, Chance was shot and killed while trying to save Cane’s wife from Carter the assistant with a grudge. He basically went down like a hero, and Floyd said in interviews that he was cool with that: “That’s his story-he’s a hero who always puts everyone else above himself. It’s a little poetic in a way.” There’s a new Days chapter for Floyd, and his goodbye posts on Instagram this week were pure gratitude, real emo behind-the-scenes stuff, thanking cast, crew and fans for “the ride”.

“It’s been real GC. What a ride. I have truly been blessed to call myself a citizen of Genoa City... Chance will always have a close place in my heart. He’s taught me a lot and I’ll miss him dearly. It’s been an absolute honor to represent the Chancellor legacy. Detective Chancellor, over and out.” - Conner Floyd on Instagram, July 28, 2025.

Did Chance Die on Young and The Restless?

Yeah. Chance is dead for real on Young and the Restless, and no fake-outs, witness protection twists, or secret comas. In that July 28 episode, he tried to defuse a fight, stepped in, and got shot. That’s it. It’s not one of those “wait, is he really gone?” situations. He actually died. Carter, the one who shot him, died right after. For anyone watching since the '80s, it kinda stings to see a Chancellor go down like that, and fans have not held back about whether he got the sendoff he really deserved.

There’s plenty of chatter on Twitter too. @YandR_CBS is fielding way more replies than usual, with fans split between outrage, heartbreak, and posting their own tributes to “Detective Chancellor” all week. On Instagram, fans and cast posted farewell pics pretty raw stuff, lots of crying-face emojis and “he’ll be missed.”
