It’s not you; it’s the Major League Baseball Wild Card Series, and boy, those games have taken over ABC’s regular daytime schedule like an unexpected plot twist you didn’t see coming. For soap fans, missing General Hospital can feel like someone pressed “pause” on part of our daily life. You know how you settle in with your coffee, ready for the usual “Who did what, where, and with whom?” and, instead, get the Cubs and Padres battling at Wrigley Field? That happened on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.

There's something a little bit brutal about choosing between a tenth-inning home run and Tracy Quartermaine’s next epic verbal slam. Fans don’t always see them as equal entertainment, but hey, it’s America. Baseball sometimes wins the schedule.

You’re not stuck in permanent reruns or sports purgatory. General Hospital is back with a brand new episode today, Friday, October 3, 2025. ABC promised they wouldn’t let the playoff stretch yank GH off the screen any longer this season. Frankly, the relief is palpable. I mean, can we get a group sigh? If there's a support group for “Soap Interrupted,” sign me up, but it’s not needed anymore. Today, the regular schedule resumes, with those ever-escalating confrontations and shaky alliances in Port Charles. It’s all back on your TV, exactly where you left it (or nervously paused it) on Monday.

You can expect the drama to pick up mid-scene, since the showrunners didn’t want anyone to feel lost, just as Alyssa from my book club confessed, “If the Quartermaines skip a day, I lose a week of sleep.” Storylines that were on pause (Carly’s interrogation, Tracy’s standoff with Veronica, Anna’s investigation) resume with a little extra intensity, maybe even caffeinated after all this waiting.
Not going to lie, there’s a little joy in hearing Maurice Benard and Steve Burton pop up on social media, laughing, reassuring everyone, “Breathe, we're back Friday.” Saw someone post: “It felt like three years!” I get it. There’s nothing quite like watching GH live. It’s like reconnecting with a messy family you only sometimes wish you could mute.
So, after a week that felt like an emotional pop-fly, Port Charles is back in action. Cue the theme music, and maybe have a BLT Sonny Corinthos style.
