Will There Be a Minecraft Movie 2?
Looks like the rumors were true, Minecraft Movie 2 is officially happening. Warner Bros. just confirmed the sequel after the massive success of A Minecraft Movie earlier this year, which pulled in nearly a billion dollars worldwide. Honestly, nobody’s shocked. With how popular the first one got (and how many memes came out of it), a sequel was pretty much guaranteed. The official Twitter account for the upcoming Minecraft movie, @AMinecraftMovie, shared an exciting update with fans, saying, "Building terrain. See you in theaters July 23, 2027."
The first film, directed by Jared Hess, yeah, the Napoleon Dynamite guy, turned out to be a fun mix of chaos, cubed worlds, and nostalgic adventure. And it seems like Warner Bros. wants to strike while the pickaxe’s still hot.
Minecraft Movie 2 Release Date
Mark your calendar, Minecraft 2 is set to hit theaters on July 23, 2027. That’s only a couple of years away, and interestingly, just a few months after the upcoming Legend of Zelda live-action movie. So, yeah… 2027’s looking like the year of the gamer movie universe.
Warner Bros. announced a teaser poster on social media, giving fans the confirmation they’ve been waiting for. The studio hasn’t shared much else yet, keeping things “deep in the mine,” as they put it. Classic tease move.
Minecraft Movie 2 Cast and Plot
While we’re still waiting on official confirmations, there’s a good chance Jack Black and Jason Momoa could return as Steve and his blocky crew. Jared Hess is reportedly coming back to direct and co-write with Chris Galletta, which means that familiar tongue-in-cheek humor will probably carry over.
Plot-wise, the story might finally spotlight Alex a character teased in the end credits of the first movie, teaming up with Steve for a new adventure. Expect bigger worlds, wilder mobs, and maybe a few emotional punches hidden between the jokes.
Two years feels far off, sure. But if Minecraft Movie 2 sticks the landing, it could easily dig up another box office goldmine.
