Will There Be a My Best Friend's Wedding Sequel? Hollywood Star Julia Roberts Confirms Talks Are Happening

Will there be a My Best Friend's Wedding Sequel?

Oh man, if you’re a fan of “My Best Friend’s Wedding”…you’re probably kinda freaking out by now, right? I mean, this rom-com has been on everyone’s list of “wait, they should do a sequel” favorites for, gosh, forever. And guess what? Julia Roberts just (finally!) confirmed talks about not just thinking, but actually making a dang sequel happen.

Now, let’s slow down for a sec. Talks—Hollywood “talks”—can mean a lot, right? Sometimes it’s agents gossiping, sometimes it’s just wishful thinking after too much wine at an awards show. But this sounds a little more real. Julia herself is like, yeah, we’ve had those discussions. And it's not just her, either—Dermot Mulroney (good ol’ Michael) dropped a bit of a hint, making it sound as if…if...well, almost like the universe is conspiring to get our chaotic heroine Julianne Potter back into our lives. Can you even imagine what wild mischief she’d create this time? Honestly, she’s overdue.

Celine Song might write. I saw “Past Lives”—wow—and I’m basically crossing fingers and toes that her vibe fits. Oh, and Luca Guadagnino, the director who practically bathes his movies in nostalgia and long silences (loved “Call Me by Your Name,” but sometimes I yell at the screen, “Speak up, people!”), is super keen to direct. That’s a pretty strong lineup, right? Except, well, none of these details are set in stone, just floating out there, kinda like that haunting karaoke scene that lives rent-free in my head. Forever.

But seriously, the best part—and the reason it’s exciting and a little nerve-wracking—is that Roberts isn’t some random celeb saying, “Maybe it’ll happen.” She’s…Roberts. Like, if she wants it? Hollywood listens. Well, mostly. Sometimes. Still, it makes me rethink all those old movies I desperately want more of. (Don’t get me started on “Notting Hill,” that’d be a whole separate rant.)

And now that I think about it, do we actually want a sequel? You know how sometimes you wish for more and when it finally happens, it’s just…meh? But I’m in, honestly. Even if it’s a mess! At least if they mess up, we’ll all have something new to argue about over brunch, right? Because if there was ever a character who was always kind of a disaster but loveable anyway, it’s Julianne.
