Will There Be A Season 5 Of Resident Alien?

Alright, here’s the hard truth for my fellow Resident Alien die-hards: Season 4 is the end of the road. No Season 5. No surprise renewal at the eleventh hour. The series just aired its finale on August 8, and that’s officially the last time we’ll see Harry trying to navigate Earth’s weird little quirks (and humans trying to navigate his even weirder ones).

On Twitter, user @TrueBlueBYU1984 shared that they’re sad the TV show Resident Alien is ending after 4 seasons. They think it deserved at least one more season because they loved the humor and writing.

Now, before you throw your remote at the wall, here’s the silver lining—this wasn’t one of those sudden “we’re yanking the plug mid-arc” situations. Chris Sheridan, the show’s creator and showrunner, knew this was probably going to be the last ride. And honestly, you can feel it in the way Season 4 was put together. It’s rare these days for a TV show to bow out with intention instead of limping along until the ratings tank. Sheridan treated the finale like a proper goodbye—big laughs, emotional payoffs, and a sense of closure that most series never manage to nail.

If you’ve been around TV as long as, you know how unusual that is. Most shows cling on until they’re shells of themselves. But Resident Alien always danced to its own rhythm a mash-up of sci-fi, small-town dramedy, and Alan Tudyk’s perfect blend of awkward and endearing. Even moving networks from Syfy to USA didn’t kill its offbeat heart. Unfortunately, what it couldn’t outrun was the cold reality of television economics. Strong cult following or not, networks want the numbers, and sometimes those numbers just aren’t enough.

So yeah, it stings. But in a way, maybe this is the best possible version of “canceled.” The story feels finished. We got to say goodbye on our own terms. And hey TV history is littered with shows that “ended forever” and somehow popped back up years later. I wouldn’t put it past Tudyk to don those alien prosthetics again someday… even if it’s just for a cheeky reunion special.

For now, though, we can raise a glass (or a suspicious alien beverage) to one of the quirkiest, most unexpectedly heartfelt sci-fi comedies of the last decade. Thanks for the ride, Harry. You made Earth a little stranger and a lot more fun
