X New Update: XChat Brings Encrypted Messages, Video Calls & Disappearing Texts Here’s How It Works

X just rolled out a new update called XChat. Messaging on the platform changes in clear ways. Now people can send encrypted messages, start video calls, and use disappearing texts. Privacy gets stronger. Features move closer to what people expect from standalone chat apps.

Messaging feels simpler. There is one inbox for everything. Old messages stay put. New encrypted chats blend in. People avoid searching for privacy settings.

XChat is available for iOS and the web. Android is next. It works for all users. Some extra features only show up if you pay for X Premium.

X New Update Details

Encrypted messages land for everyone. Audio and video calls are here. People can send any file. Messages can vanish after a set time. The app lets you block or get alerts for screenshots. Edit or delete texts without fuss. There are no ads or tracking in chats.

This update marks a big shift since Elon Musk promised X would become a universal communications app. The new features aim to match the privacy options seen in apps like Signal or Telegram. Message security uses tech described as “Bitcoin-style encryption.” Old chats get marked as “unencrypted” so people know which ones use new protections.

How It Works?

You turn on encryption by picking a PIN. From there messages, files, images, and calls get encrypted. Encryption is end-to-end. Only senders and recipients can read texts or see files. Metadata like time and recipient info may still show up but not the message itself.

Disappearing messages are easy. Pick a timer. When time runs out, texts vanish from chat. You see a warning if someone tries to take a screenshot. You can block screenshots too—locking down your privacy even more. Edit or delete messages any time. No need for browser extensions or outside tools.

Video and voice calls work inside the app. You don’t need to share your phone number. The connection stays as private as your messages. Sending files, PDFs, and images is now standard. Chats run smoother than before. All activity happens in the same inbox. Old DMs shift into the new system. You don’t have to move anything manually.

X says that more security checks, device verification, and privacy controls are coming soon. For now, XChat brings new privacy and simple controls built into the main app. Users can count on messages that stay private, vanish on cue, and don’t crowd the inbox with ads or noise.
