Zach Ertz Injury Update
Zach Ertz is feared to have suffered a serious right knee injury for the Washington Commanders in the 2025 season. Reports say the team believes he tore his ACL and he is getting scans to confirm it.
The injury happened in a game against the Minnesota Vikings when he took a heavy hit to his right knee while going up for a catch. He stayed on the ground for a while then needed help to get off the field and was ruled out for the rest of the game. People at the stadium noted that he looked upset as he was carted to the locker room which showed how serious it felt in the moment.
Right now the team lists it as a knee injury while they wait for imaging to confirm the exact damage. Most reports already treat it as a likely torn ACL which would end his 2025 season and keep him out even if the Commanders reach the playoffs. An ACL tear usually needs many months of rehab so it could affect his work for the 2026 season as well especially at his age.
Before the injury Ertz was still productive with around fifty catches just over five hundred yards and four touchdowns in 13 games for Washington in 2025. He had a standout game against the Denver Broncos with double digit catches and more than one hundred yards which showed he could still help the offense as a veteran tight end. His absence now forces the Commanders to rely more on younger tight ends in the passing game and near the goal line where his size and experience mattered.
Ertz is on a short term deal and had spoken about enjoying the Commanders environment late in his career. This injury puts his future with the team in doubt since franchises are usually careful with older players coming off major knee surgery. For the moment everything centers on the test results and then setting up a rehab plan once the diagnosis is official.
