PM Surya Ghar Yojana
PM Surya Ghar Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 15, 2024. The main objective of this scheme is to provide free electricity to households across India. With an investment of over ₹75,000 crores, the initiative aims to power 1 crore households by offering up to 300 units of free electricity per month. Objectives of PM Surya Ghar Yojana
1. To achieve 1 crore rooftop solar system (RTS) installation in residential sector.
2. To help provide free/low-cost electricity to 1 crore households up to 300 units of electricity per month by installation of rooftop solar.
3. To produce renewable electricity of 1,000 billion units through the capacity installed under the
programme, which will result in reduction of 720 million ton of CO2eq emission during the 25
years of lifetime for rooftop solar projects.
4. To develop the required enabling ecosystem for rooftop solar projects, including regulatory
support, manufacturing facilities, supply chain, vendor network, operation & maintenance
facilities, etc., in the country.
5. To boost local economy and employment generation along with enhanced energy security
6. To aid in achievement of India’s commitment for green climate through its NDCs (Nationally Determined Contributions) at UNFCCC by installation of 30 GW of solar capacity through rooftop solar by 2026-27
PM Surya Ghar Yojana Eligibility Criteria
- Only native residents of India are eligible for PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana
- Applicants must be above 18 years of age
- Priority will be given to middle-class and economically weaker sections
- The scheme is open to people of all caste
- Applicants must have an Aadhaar card linked to their bank account

- Go to the official website pmsuryaghar.gov.in
- On the home page click on Apply For Rooftop Solar
- Then click on the registration option. Select your district, and electricity sector on the page
- Next, enter your electricity account number, then your mobile number, and click on the submit button
- Now your registration will be done
- Enter your mobile number and login
- Enter the captcha and click on the next
- Enter the OTP received on your mobile and click on Next
- Then click on PM Surya Ghar Mukt Bijli Yojana 2024 option
- Next, upload the required documents
- Your application for PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme 2024 will be completed
