Android 16 QPR2 Update: New Features, Eligible Pixel Models, and How to Install

Android 16 QPR2 Update

Android 16 QPR2 is now rolling out as the big December “Pixel drop” style update, mainly for Google Pixel phones with the December 2025 security patch. It is technically a quarterly platform release, so it sits on top of stable Android 16 and adds a bunch of polish, new APIs, and a few user-facing tricks rather than changing everything overnight. Android Developers (@AndroidDev) shared on X that Android 16 QPR2 is now available!

For most users, it will show up like any other OTA: a quiet notification, a download in the background, and then that slightly too-long reboot while everyone hopes nothing breaks.

Android 16 QPR2 Features

Android 16 QPR2 focuses on smarter customization, better widgets, and meaningful under-the-hood improvements rather than flashy “headline” features. There is an expanded dark theme that better respects app content, refined quick settings tiles, more granular haptic controls, widget interaction metrics for developers, and some neat updates to the system sharesheet so apps stay interactive even while sharing.

Power users will also notice improved support for multi-display setups, better touchpad and mouse gestures for Android-on-PC scenarios, and new developer APIs for security, SMS OTP protection, and system update flows.

In short, it feels like one of those “quality of life” patches: nothing to brag about in a headline, but plenty that makes the phone feel a bit more grown-up after a day or two of use.

Phones that get Android 16 QPR2

Right now, Android 16 QPR2 is rolling out first to supported Google Pixel models, with other brands to follow via their own Android 16 builds later. On the Pixel side, the update is available for:

  • Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a

  • Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a

  • Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, Pixel 8a,

  • Pixel 9 family and the newer Pixel 10 series were available

  • Pixel Fold and newer foldables, plus Pixel Tablet

For non-Pixel phones, Android 16 itself is headed to recent Samsung Galaxy S and Z series, Xiaomi 14/15 lines, OnePlus 12/13, Oppo Find and Reno flagships, and similar upper-tier models; QPR2-style features should come later through their custom skins (One UI, HyperOS, OxygenOS, etc.).

How to Install Android 16 QPR 2?

The easiest way to install Android 16 QPR2 is to grab it as an over-the-air update from your phone’s Settings. On a Pixel, go to:

  • Settings → System → System update → Check for update
