Apple’s $230 iPhone Pocket Bag: The Most Expensive Phone Sock Yet? See Internet Reactions

Apple’s $230 iPhone Pocket Bag

Apple just launched a $230 bag to carry your iPhone. And people are roasting it online.

The tech giant teamed up with Japanese fashion house Issey Miyake to create the iPhone Pocket. It's a 3D knitted pouch that stretches to fit any iPhone plus small items like AirPods or a wallet.

The design comes in two versions. The short strap sells for $150 and comes in eight colors like lemon, mandarin, purple, and peacock. The long strap version costs $230 and only comes in three colors: sapphire, cinnamon, and black.

What It Actually Does

The pouch wraps around your phone completely. When you stretch the knitted fabric, you can peek at your iPhone screen through the open weave.

You can wear it multiple ways. Sling it over your shoulder. Tie it to your bag. Wrap it around your wrist.

Apple says the design is inspired by "a piece of cloth" and uses Issey Miyake's signature pleating technique. The same studio made Steve Jobs' famous black turtlenecks.

The Internet's Reaction

Tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee called it "a litmus test for people who will buy anything Apple releases".

Others compared it to Apple's 2004 iPod Socks, which sold for $29 for a six pack. This new version costs way more for essentially the same concept.

Social media users have been mocking the sock-like appearance and the price tag. Many questioned whether a knitted pouch really needs to cost more than some actual smartphones.

Where You Can Buy It?

The iPhone Pocket goes on sale November 14. It will be available at select Apple Stores and online in the US, UK, France, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and China.

India isn't on the launch list yet. Apple calls this a "special edition release" and a limited run, which means it might sell out fast despite the criticism.

This isn't Apple's first expensive accessory. The company previously sold a $19 polishing cloth and a $59 Vision Pro cover. The iPhone Pocket just continues that tradition with a fashion twist.
