Bubsy 4D Release Date
Bubsy 4D doesn’t have an exact release date yet, but it’s officially slated for coming soon on all major platforms: Switch, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One/Series X|S, and PC. That’s a mix of exciting and a bit exasperating (especially for those of us with nostalgic scar tissue from the original Bubsy 3D).
Atari (@atari) shared on Twitter that Bubsy is making a comeback in Bubsy 4D, set to release on PlayStation, playfully adding, “What could go wrong.
I checked everywhere for a concrete day or even a splashy quarter, but "2026" is as much as Atari and Fabraz have let slip. There was a moment of hope that Gamescom might sneak in a tighter window, but no dice—just a fuzzy promise that more info is “coming soon.”
In the meantime, if you’re itching for some pre-4D Bubsy mayhem, a collection called "Bubsy: The Purrfect Collection" which compiles his old adventures, drops September 9, 2025. I’m genuinely tempted, mostly to see if the infamous quirks of Bubsy 3D feel less terrible with modern nostalgia goggles.
Bubsy 4D Announcement
Bubsy 4D was officially announced on August 19, 2025, at Gamescom Opening Night Live, catching even die-hard platformer fans off guard. The press reaction ranged from incredulous to weirdly hyped. I mean, "Bubsy returns" is the sort of headline you expect as a meme, not real news. But here we are. Atari (@atari) announced on Twitter that Bubsy is making a return in Bubsy 4-Ever in Bubsy 4D, teasing fans with the line, “The bobcat is back in a brand new adventure:
Fabraz, the indie dev behind Demon Turf (which was strange and wonderful in its own right), got picked to resurrect the bobcat for his first true 3D outing since the 90s. Atari, for its part, seems fully aware of the brand’s, in their words, notorious reputation.
The new trailer leans gleefully into Bubsy’s infamous legacy, teasing a self-aware, joke-heavy platformer that’s less about dethroning Mario or Sonic and more about embracing its weirdness. Bubsy talks to the player, makes fun of his past ("You know, I've only got one brain cell, right?"), and the humor borders on fourth-wall-breaking Deadpool energy.
