Genshin Impact to End PS4 Support by April 2026: Full Timeline & What to Do Next

Genshin Impact to end PS4 support

Genshin Impact will officially end support on PlayStation 4 in April 2026, marking the end of an era for players who have been enjoying the popular gacha game on Sony's last-generation console since its launch in September 2020. HoYoverse confirmed the decision on August 6, 2025, citing "hardware performance and platform application size" as the primary reasons for discontinuing PS4 support.

Based on X @GenshinUniverse: Genshin Impact is ending on PS4 because the console can’t keep up with new updates and the game’s size. Support and updates for PS4 will officially stop soon.

Why Is Genshin Impact Ending PS4 Support?

The decision to sunset PS4 support is rooted entirely in hardware limitations and the ever-increasing size of the game application. Since launching in 2020, Genshin Impact has expanded significantly with regular content updates, new regions, characters, and features that have pushed the 11-year-old PlayStation 4 hardware to its limits.

Based on X @Gacha_Zone: Genshin Impact won’t be playable on PS4 anymore because the console can’t handle newer updates. HoYo confirmed the news due to hardware limitations.

HoYoverse has explicitly stated that the move is not tied to any particular version or content update, but rather represents a necessary technical decision as the game continues to evolve and grow in complexity.

Complete PS4 Support Shutdown Timeline

This isn’t happening all at once. There’s a roadmap, so players have time to react:

  • September 10, 2025: Genshin Impact is delisted from the PlayStation Store on PS4. If you hadn’t downloaded it before, you won’t be able to get it after this.

  • February 25, 2026: No more in-game purchases on PS4. So, Blessings, Genesis Crystals, battle passes? All gone from the shop after this date.

  • April 8, 2026: Full shutdown. Genshin Impact PS4 stops getting updates, you can’t log in, the game’s unplayable for good—even if you have it installed.

There’ll be reminder prompts, too. Starting December 17, 2025, every time you boot up Genshin on PS4, you’ll get asked to bind your account. They want you to switch platforms early.

Based on X @Wario64: Genshin Impact will stop supporting PS4 because of hardware and size limits—PS4 version leaves PSN Sept 10, 2025, in-game purchases end Feb 25, 2026, and full PS4 access shuts down April 8, 2026. PS5 stays unaffected.

How to Save Your Genshin Impact Account Before PS4 Shutdown

Here’s what you need to do, and don’t leave this until the last minute. Linking your PSN account to a HoYoverse account is your ticket to not losing years of progress:

  • Open the Paimon Menu.

  • Go to Settings → Account → User Center.

  • There you’ll see the option to bind your PlayStation account to your email (HoYoverse login).

Follow the prompts to link up.

If you haven’t done this by December 17, 2025, the game will start reminding you with a pop-up every time you log in on PS4—annoying, but it’s for your good. If you don’t bind your account before April 8, 2026, there’s a genuine risk you’ll lose access to all your stuff when the servers lock you out.

Alternative Platforms for Continuing Your Journey

After PS4 support ends, players can continue their Genshin Impact adventure on:

  • PlayStation 5 (unaffected by this change)

  • PC (via HoYoPlay launcher or Epic Games Store)

  • Mobile (iOS and Android)

  • Xbox Series X|S

  • Nintendo Switch (version in development)
