Instagram's New “Your Algorithm” Tool
Instagram’s new “Your Algorithm” tool is a control panel for your Reels recommendations, letting you actually see and tweak the topics the algorithm thinks you care about. When you’re watching a Reel, you’ll now see a small icon in the top‑right corner that looks like two lines with hearts; tapping it opens a screen showing your current “interest map” – things like fitness motivation, K‑pop, gaming clips, food, “day in my life,” and so on. Progressive Robot (@ProgresiveRobot) shared on X that Instagram's new 'Your Algorithm' tool lets users customize their Reels recommendations by selecting topics of interest.
From there, you can tell Instagram which topics you want more of and which you want less of, and the Reels feed will adjust in real time as the AI reweights your interests. The feature is rolling out first in the US in English, with a global English rollout promised over the next few weeks and plans to expand beyond Reels into Explore and other parts of the app once Instagram sees how people actually use it.
There’s even an option to share a summary card like “Lately you’ve been into creativity, sports hype, fitness motivation, and skateboarding” to Stories, turning your algorithm into a kind of mini “Wrapped” flex.

How to Adjust Your Reels Preferences?
To adjust your Reels preferences with “Your Algorithm,” you open any Reel, tap the new hearts‑and‑lines icon in the upper‑right corner, and then edit the topic list that appears. At the top you’ll see the main themes Instagram has inferred from your behaviour, and underneath there’s a searchable list where you can add interests you want to see more often or down-rank ones you’re tired of, whether that’s “crypto tips,” “wedding inspo,” or yet another “how to wake up at 5 AM” grindset clip.
Under the hood, the tool doesn’t replace the usual signals like watch time, likes, saves, or “Not Interested,” but it gives you a shortcut so you’re not waiting weeks for the algorithm to slowly realise you’ve moved on. If you really want to tune things, Instagram still recommends pairing this with normal behaviour, watching the stuff you like to the end, skipping fast on what bores you, and using “Not Interested” on content or topics you never want to see again, because the AI blends your explicit topic choices with your actual in‑app activity.

Instagram’s ‘Your Algorithm’ features, labels, and rollout regions can change as the company tests and updates its recommendation tools. Availability may differ by country, language, app version, and account type. Users should always check the latest in‑app help, settings, and official announcements for the most current controls and options.
