Nintendo Direct September 2025
Nintendo has officially locked in the next big Nintendo Direct for Friday, September 12, 2025. It's hard not to feel the electric anticipation pulsing through gaming fan communities — after all, this is the first full Direct since Nintendo made the Switch 2 public.
The September Direct is always a highlight, but this year it genuinely matters. Why? Because we're staring down the launch window for a new generation, rumored flagship games, and the 40th birthday of Super Mario.
If social feeds are anything to go by, longtime fans and new Switch hopefuls are practically holding their breath for updates on Metroid Prime 4, Mario’s next adventure, and some curveball surprises.
Sometimes Directs feel like wild parties: the chat scroll exploding, slick trailers dropping one after another, and everyone posting reaction memes before the stream is even over.
Sometimes, sure, they're more muted — maybe a few ports and indie spotlights. But this time, with all the Switch 2 speculation and anniversary fever, the expectation is for the 2025 showcase to be a genuine calendar-marking event.
If history repeats, we might end up talking about these announcements for months.
Nintendo Direct September 2025 Duration
Direct answer? The stream is set to last about 60 minutes, on the record, one of the longer presentations Nintendo has ever put on for a general Direct.
For context, the April Switch 2 showcase ran about an hour too, but September's is often where Nintendo throws in more reveals, deeper dives, and those little sizzle reels that spark wild speculation.
For a bit of gaming trivia, most past Directs have hovered around the 30–45 minute mark, so an hour feels almost luxurious.
It’s just enough time for fans to oscillate between hype, confusion, a little disappointment, and finally, the urge to preorder something they swore they didn’t need.
If you’re the sort that snacks nervously during streams (guilty), you might want to prep extra popcorn.
Nintendo Direct September 2025 Expected Game Lineup
Expected answer: The lineup is still under wraps, classic Nintendo, but the rumor mill’s been grinding overtime. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the centerpiece everyone’s watching.
After years of teases and recent ratings popping up worldwide, it might finally get a hard release date… or, you know, another atmospheric trailer to taunt Metroid diehards.
Mario’s 40th anniversary looms large. With the original Super Mario Bros. turning 40 literally one day after the Direct, it’d take a mighty misfire for Nintendo NOT to serve at least a tribute, a remaster, or (maybe, just maybe!) a new 3D Mario platformer to mark the Switch 2 era.
If the Mario Kart franchise or the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel pops up, social media will be completely impossible to use for hours (I’ve lived it).
Other hotly anticipated news? Kirby Air Raiders gets its November drop, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is supposedly aimed for winter, Donkey Kong Bananza (launched in July) could see updates, and fans are crossing fingers for Pokémon spin-off announcements, Resident Evil ports, fresh Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing content, plus surprise party crashers nobody saw coming.
Here’s a loose, slightly messy bullet list (because that feels right):
-
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (just give us a date, Nintendo… please)
-
Mario’s 40th Anniversary: Remaster, new platformer, merch, movie tie-ins, it’s open season
-
Kirby Air Raiders (November launch)
-
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment (still “Winter”, whatever that means)
-
Donkey Kong Bananza updates
-
Pokémon Legends: Z-A & rumored spinoffs
-
Resident Evil rumors (Biohazard anyone?)
-
Hades 2, Animal Crossing, and Fire Emblem as wildcards
-
Speculated remasters and upgraded visuals for legacy Switch games on Switch 2
If past is prologue, not every rumor will come true, but September Directs have a solid record of at least one unexpected delight. Cue the scramble for preorder links.
How to Watch Nintendo Direct?
Easy answer: Just head to Nintendo’s official YouTube channel at stream time (6 am PT, 9 am ET, 2 pm BST, 3 pm CEST, 10 pm JST). The video will be live with a chat, and let’s be honest, that chat will be chaos.
Twitch fans can stream there too, or you can visit Nintendo’s website for a quieter, less meme-infested experience. The Nintendo Today app (new this year!) also lets fans jump in.
Pro tip: If you miss the live show (hey, some of us don’t wake up at 6 am to watch trailers) an archived version and individual game trailers will be posted right after, so you can skip directly to what matters, or watch trailers ten times to spot Easter eggs.
Weirdly, I’ve often ended up watching these postmortems with friends, swapping reactions by text and making wild guesses about which secret character Nintendo is hiding until next year. That’s always part of the fun.
