Overall, the 27 posts carry the reservation break-up of SC-04, OBC(NCL)-05, UR-PwBD(HH)-01, UR-PwBD(OH)-01, EWS-04, and UR-12. Out of these 27 posts, 2 posts are reserved horizontally for Ex-Servicemen (ESM). The post carries Pay Level-2 (₹19,900 – ₹63,200) as per the 7th CPC, with total emoluments of approximately ₹39,000 per month (inclusive of Basic Pay, DA, HRA, and TA as admissible).

Age Limit and Relaxation
The minimum and maximum age, as on the closing date of online application (3 August 2026), must be 18 years and 28 years respectively. Key conditions on age relaxation:
- No age relaxation is allowed to SC/ST/OBC candidates applying against unreserved posts.
- SC/ST/OBC/PwBD candidates must upload a copy of the certificate in the prescribed format, duly signed by the competent authority. OBC candidates must produce the Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificate valid for appointment to posts under the Central Government, and must ensure they do not fall in the creamy layer as on 3 August 2026.
- Age relaxation for Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) is given only to candidates with 40% or more disability holding a valid certificate. As per Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment O.M. No. 18-25/2024-Policy dated 17 December 2025, disability conditions falling under "likely to improve" (temporary disability category) are not eligible for reservation, while conditions that are "progressive, non-progressive, or not likely to improve" are eligible. Candidates with a temporary disability certificate bearing conditions other than "likely to improve" must get themselves re-assessed under the RPwD Amendment Rules 2024.
- Candidates claiming age relaxation as a widow, divorced woman, or woman judicially separated from her husband must produce specific documentary evidence (death certificate with affidavit of non-remarriage for widows; certified copy of the court judgment/decree along with an affidavit of non-remarriage for divorced/judicially separated women) issued by the competent authority.
Educational Qualification & Desirable Experience (Trade-wise)
For all seven trades, the essential qualification follows a common pattern based on SSC/10th Standard with Science subjects and minimum 55% marks, combined with an ITI/trade certificate or equivalent work experience. Desirable experience is trade-specific and is summarized below.

Essential Qualification: SSC / 10th Standard or equivalent with Science subjects, minimum 55% marks, and an ITI certificate or national/state trade certificate in Fitter from a recognized institution; OR the same qualification with 2 years’ full-time apprentice trainee experience in Fitter from a recognized institution; OR the same qualification with 3 years’ work experience in Fitter in a Ministry/Department/Organization/PSU/Autonomous Body under the Government of India/State/UT.
Desirable Experience: Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics; proficiency in fitting, assembling, and maintaining mechanical parts and systems/facilities; knowledge of tools and machinery used in fittings (drills, tap, hacksaw, etc.); interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications; basic knowledge of computer systems and AutoCAD software; ability to work in a team and perform hard work in physically demanding conditions during field trials.

Exam Pattern & Selection Process
Selection is a three-stage process: screening of applications, a qualifying Trade Test, and a Competitive Written Examination. This section explains the marking scheme and qualifying criteria for the written stage.
- Online applications received within the stipulated last date are screened by a duly constituted Screening Committee, which shortlists candidates for a Trade Test in the relevant trade. The Trade Test is qualifying in nature; its syllabus will be notified separately on the official website.
- Candidates who qualify in the Trade Test are called for the Competitive Written Examination.

- Paper-II and Paper-III are evaluated only for candidates who secure the minimum threshold marks (to be determined by the Selection Committee) in Paper-I.
- The final merit list is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III only.
- Resolution of Tie Cases (as per CSIR Letter No. 5-1(211)/2014-PD dated 30 May 2023), in order of preference: higher marks in the concerned subject/trade paper; lesser negative marks in the concerned subject/trade paper; lesser negative marks in the papers considered for merit; older date of birth; candidate acquiring the essential degree earlier; and alphabetical order of first names.
Benefits Under Council Service
- These posts carry usual allowances – Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA) (not admissible if staying in the Institute’s colony), and Transport Allowance (TA), as admissible to Central Government/CSIR Council employees. Employees are also eligible for accommodation of their entitled type as per CSIR Allotment Rules, subject to availability.
- In addition to emoluments, benefits such as reimbursement of Medical Expenses, Leave Travel Concession, and House Building Advance are available as per extant CSIR rules.
- Selected candidates will be governed by the National Pension System or the extant CSIR pension provisions.
- CSIR provides opportunities for career advancement under the Assessment Promotion Scheme for Technical & Support Staff, subject to qualifying as per rules amended from time to time.
- Selected candidates will be placed on probation for one year from the date of joining, extendable/curtailable at the Appointing Authority’s discretion, after which they will be considered for confirmation as per extant rules.
Application Fee
A non-refundable fee of Rs 500 is mandatory for applicants other than Ex-Servicemen, SC, ST, Women, and PwBD candidates, who are exempted from the fee.
- The fee must be deposited online through State Bank Collect (SBI Collect) only; fees paid through any other mode will not be accepted, and the application will be treated as without fee and rejected.
- The transaction number/receipt number generated after successful payment must be mentioned at the appropriate place in the online application before submission.
- Candidates must download the e-receipt from SBI Collect and upload it in the online application, and are advised to preserve it for future reference.
- A candidate can apply for multiple post codes subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria for each; primary/registration details need to be submitted only once, but the application form (except registration details) must be filled and the fee paid separately for each post code.
- Fee once paid will not be refunded on any count, and the application once finally submitted cannot be withdrawn or modified.

Applications with unclear/smudged photographs, signatures, or essential documents will be rejected. Candidates should also ensure the photo and signature are uploaded at the correct places and are of the required size with the face clearly visible; failure to do so will result in rejection.
How to Apply Online

- Create/Verify Email ID – Candidates without a valid email ID should create one before applying. The registered email address and mobile number should remain active till the completion of the recruitment process, as communication will be made by CSIR-CMERI.
- Register on the Portal – Register with name and email address; after successful registration, log in using the credentials provided to access the Online Application Portal.
- Fill Application & Upload Documents – Complete the application form and upload all relevant supporting documents, ensuring the application is accurate and complete before finalizing.
- Pay Application Fee (wherever applicable) – Pay the fee online via SBI Collect, download the e-receipt, and upload it in the application along with the payment details at the appropriate place.
- Submit the Application – Click the ‘Submit’ button to finally submit the form. No further modifications or amendments will be permitted after submission. Keep a printout of the completed application form; candidates should NOT send a hard copy of the application after submission.
Candidates from Universities/Institutes awarding CGPA/SGPA/OGPA/DGPA/CPI grades must convert these into percentage as per their University/Institute formula and upload a copy of the conversion formula issued by the Board/University/Institute. Print-outs of the application and payment details will not be available after 5:00 PM on 3 August 2026.
Other Important Eligibility Conditions
- Nationality: The applicant must be a Citizen of India.
- Essential Qualification: The prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum; mere possession does not entitle a candidate to be called for the Trade Test/Competitive Written Examination. The Screening Committee may adopt its own shortlisting criteria.
- Supporting Documents: All qualifications, experience, and other details must be supported by valid documents obtained through recognized Universities/Institutions. Documents in a language other than Hindi or English require an attested transcript by a Gazetted Officer or Notary.
- Equivalent Qualification Claims: Candidates claiming an equivalent qualification must produce the order/letter indicating the authority (with number and date) under which it was so treated, failing which the application is liable to be rejected.
- Experience Calculation: Part-time or daily-wage experience will not be counted while calculating valid experience for shortlisting. Experience in a discipline/area of work is counted only after the date of acquiring the minimum prescribed educational qualification.
- Government/PSU Employees: Applications from employees of Government Departments, Autonomous Bodies, PSUs, and Government-funded Research Agencies will be considered only if a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is obtained from the present employer in the prescribed format and submitted at the time of online application.
- Joining Time: In case of selection, a joining time of one month will be allowed under normal circumstances, as per CSIR/Government of India rules.
- Discrepancy in Documents: Any discrepancy found between the application and original documents, at any stage including after joining, will make the candidate ineligible, and appropriate action may be taken against them.
- Official Language: As per Rajbhasha rules, selected candidates must acquire working knowledge of Hindi during the probationary period.
- No TA/DA: Candidates will not be reimbursed any Travelling Allowance/Daily Allowance for appearing in the Trade Test or Written Examination.
- Service Rules: Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1964, and Central Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965, along with other applicable rules and executive orders, will govern service conditions to the extent applicable to Council servants.
- The Competent Authority, CSIR-CMERI/CSIR, reserves the right to amend, delete, or add terms and conditions to the advertisement, and to cancel the recruitment process at any stage for administrative reasons.
