Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Ministry of Panchayati Raj, launched the Livestock Insurance Portal ('Pashudhan Bima Portal') in New Delhi, developed under the National Livestock Mission.
- A unified digital platform for farmers, insurers and implementing agencies, offering transparent, technology-driven livestock insurance.
- Available in 11 regional languages plus Hindi and English.
- Enables digital application submission, real-time monitoring and faster claims processing.
Ministry of Steel to establish Steel Industry Safety Council
The Ministry of Steel announced the creation of the Steel Industry Safety Council (SISC), an apex body to strengthen safety standards and accident prevention across India's steel sector.
- Chaired by: Sandeep Poundrik, Secretary, Ministry of Steel, with members from the DGMS, PESO, NDMA, steel company CEOs and technical institutions.
- A Steel Industry Safety Directorate (SISD) will provide technical support, conduct audits and investigate incidents.
Pralhad Joshi inaugurates Seva First Innovation Challenge at IISc Bengaluru
Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi inaugurated the South Zone round of the Seva First Innovation Challenge (SFIC) at IISc Bengaluru, to encourage youth to build scalable solutions to community problems.
- Organised by the Ministry of Education, AICTE and UGC, with IISc as the nodal institute.
- Three levels: Junior (Class 6–12), Technical (ITI/polytechnic) and Open (UG/PG/research).

Tata Communications sets up Centre of Excellence in Cybersecurity at SASTRA, Tamil Nadu
Tata Communications launched a Centre of Excellence in Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics at SASTRA Deemed University, Thanjavur, through a Rs. 3.5 crore investment, aimed at capacity building against emerging digital and cyber vulnerabilities.
Delhi launches 'Udyog Mitra' single-window portal for business approvals
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the 'Delhi Udyog Mitra' portal under the Ease of Doing Business initiative, integrating 50+ services from 15 departments (expanding to 100+ services across 21 departments), expected to benefit over 8 lakh traders and MSMEs. It is integrated with the National Single Window System.
9th India International Water Week 2026 concludes at Bharat Mandapam
The 9th IIWW 2026, held from 22 to 26 September 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, brought together participants from 150 countries on the theme "Climate Resilient Water Management." Conceptualised in 2012, it was renamed from "India Water Week" to "India International Water Week" starting this 9th edition; it was inaugurated by Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan.

SEBI board approves PMS-mutual fund route and overhauls settlement rules
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) board approved a broad set of reforms covering Portfolio Management Services (PMS), settlement proceedings, Foreign Portfolio Investor access, and advertising norms.
Key approvals
- PMS overhaul: introduces PRIM, letting PMS providers invest client funds in direct mutual fund schemes and Specialised Investment Funds with a minimum ticket size of Rs. 25 lakh; permits up to 10% of client AUM in investment-grade unlisted debt with client consent; and allows access to IPOs and primary debt issuances.
- Settlement reforms: a formula-based method for settlement amounts; a fast-track mechanism for disclosure-related violations up to Rs. 10 lakh; the application window extended from 60 to 90 days; and a separate 90-day one-time settlement window for specified pending cases.
- Other changes: expanded Vault Manager rules for bullion-linked ETFs and derivatives, minimum net worth raised to Rs. 75 crore, eased retrospective listing norms for unlisted NCDs, and a fourth settlement scheme for illiquid stock-option cases.
India's net FDI hits five-year high of USD 7.35 billion in July 2026
The Reserve Bank of India's monthly bulletin showed net FDI rising to a five-year high of USD 7.35 billion in July 2026 – the highest since May 2021's USD 8.80 billion – up 64% year-on-year.
- Gross inflows: USD 14.58 billion, the third-highest in six years.
- Top sectors: communication, financial and computer services together received 60% of equity inflows.
- April–July 2026 net FDI: USD 13.4 billion, up 38% year-on-year; gross inflows over the same period up 12.6% to USD 43.9 billion.
Sagarmala Finance Corporation launches India's first Blue Bond
Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL), India's first NBFC dedicated to the maritime sector, launched India's first-ever Blue Bond on 28 September 2026, targeting Rs. 600 crore with a Rs. 500 crore green shoe option.
- Tenor: 10 years; proceeds to fund maritime lending, greenfield port projects and coastal road networks.
- Rating: AA+ from ICRA and CARE; arranger: SBI Capital Markets.
- SMFCL, incorporated in August 2016, is a Mini Ratna Category-I CPSE under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
IndusInd Bank launches dedicated GCC Banking vertical
IndusInd Bank launched a Global Capability Centre (GCC) Banking vertical, integrating five capabilities – digital banking, employee banking, commercial cards, FEMA/capital account solutions, and foreign-currency accounts via its IBU at GIFT City – under a single relationship. India's GCC ecosystem has grown 32% since FY21 and now comprises 2,117 GCCs.

TakeMe2Space to launch India's first orbital data centre on Falcon 9 in 2028
Hyderabad-based spacetech TakeMe2Space announced plans to launch India's first networked orbital data centre mission on SpaceX's Falcon 9 in late 2028, via a launch agreement with French firm RIDE! Space.
Key details
- Two 100 kg satellites will be launched to a 500 km sun-synchronous orbit as part of the Waymaker 2 rideshare mission (operated by SEOPS).
- Each satellite will carry 10 NVIDIA Thor GPUs, 100 TB of storage and 1.5 kW of power, linked by optical inter-satellite links for in-orbit computing.
- Plans call for a constellation of 6 satellites over the coming years.
France continues to support Gaganyaan; TRISHNA mission progresses
France is supporting India's Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme, including supply of consumables and training of flight surgeons, as part of continuing ISRO-CNES cooperation. Work also continues on the joint India-France TRISHNA Earth-observation satellite mission.

HAL and SkyPulse sign MoU for Rs. 2,491 crore, 30-helicopter programme
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and SkyPulse Solutions IFSC signed an MoU to establish a framework for acquisition, financing, leasing and lifecycle support of HAL-manufactured helicopters, valued at Rs. 2,491 crore.
Key details
- Programme: 30 helicopters (single and twin-engine) in phases – 10 between 2027–2029, and 20 from 2030 onwards, with induction from FY 2027–28.
- Applications: Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS), disaster response, search and rescue, tourism, UDAN, government and charter services.
- Covers MRO, training and spares support, reinforcing Make in India.
- HAL was established in 1940, headquartered in Bengaluru, and is headed by CMD Ravi K.
9th India-Kazakhstan joint exercise 'KAZIND-2026' begins in Oskemen
The 9th edition of the India-Kazakhstan joint military exercise KAZIND-2026 commenced in Oskemen (Ust-Kamenogorsk), Kazakhstan, running from 28 September to 11 October 2026.
- A 60-member Indian contingent, led primarily by a Garhwal Rifles battalion, includes personnel from other arms and the Indian Air Force; Kazakhstan is fielding a matching-strength contingent from its Land Forces.
- Focus: joint counter-terrorism operations in semi-urban and mountainous terrain, joint planning, air mobility, and integrated use of UAS and Counter-UAS capabilities.
- Activities: counter-terrorism drills, raids, search-and-destroy and cordon operations, and setting up a Joint Command Post and Intelligence Centre.

Indian-origin British chess prodigy Bodhana Sivanandan secured her third and final Woman Grandmaster (WGM) norm at the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, becoming the youngest WGM in history at age 11 – surpassing Kateryna Lagno's 2002 record of 12 years and 4 months.

- She represented England, scoring 8/11 on Board 1, helping the team finish 15th, and also earned her second International Master (IM) norm.
- Her norm journey: first WGM norm in July 2025 (age 10, surpassing Hou Yifan's record); second in early 2026; third at this Olympiad.
- She is also the youngest player to represent England internationally (age 9) and the youngest female to defeat a Grandmaster.
- Separately, V.S. Rathanvel of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, became India's 99th Grandmaster by crossing 2500 Elo at the Guwahati Smart City International Open 2026 in July.

India secured the 10th position at the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China (22–27 September 2026), winning 6 silver medals and 20 Medals for Excellence – an improvement from 13th place at WorldSkills Lyon 2024.
- India fielded its largest-ever contingent of 70 competitors across 63 skills, including 11 new categories.
