Eligibility Criteria
- Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel: At least 7 years practice in criminal cases; excellent knowledge and understanding of criminal law; excellent oral and written communication skills; proficiency in legal research; thorough understanding of ethical duties of a defence counsel; must have worked as defence counsel in at least 20 Sessions trial cases, attaching certified copies of Vakalatnamas for proof; proficiency in information technology.
- Assistant Legal Aid Defense Counsel: 0 to 3 years experience in criminal cases; excellent communication skills (oral and written); good understanding of ethical duties of defence counsel; ability to work effectively and efficiently with others; proficiency in writing and research; basic IT proficiency.
- Candidates must be advocates enrolled with Bar Council and practicing in criminal courts; detailed application format seeks enrollment details, case handling, and disciplinary status.
Salary/Stipend
- Honorarium (Retainership fee) is governed by UPSLSA guidelines based on town class.
- For Class-B towns (population more than 2 lakh but below 10 lakh) like Aligarh: Chief LADC ₹ 65,000–80,000 per month; Deputy Chief LADC ₹ 40,000–60,000 per month; Assistant LADC ₹ 20,000–35,000 per month.

Selection Process
- Merit-based selection by the Selection Committee at DLSA Aligarh, considering legal knowledge, computer skills, practice and experience.

- Final appointment subject to approval of Hon’ble Executive Chairman, U.P. State Legal Services Authority, Lucknow.
- Performance review every six months; services may be terminated if work is unsatisfactory or code of ethics is breached, as per UPSLSA guidelines.
