Gujarat High Court Civil Judges Recruitment 2026 (Short Notice) - Apply Online for 237 Posts

The High Court of Gujarat has announced approximately 237 regular vacancies for the cadre of Civil Judges as per notification number RC/0719/2026 dated 24th April 2026. This includes both existing and future vacancies, and the final number may vary as per administrative requirements. The recruitment will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines laid down by the Hon'ble Supreme Court in the case of Malik Mazhar Sultan (3) vs. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission.

Candidates must possess a Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a university or institution recognized by the Government of India or established by law in India. Additionally, candidates who obtained their law degree in or after the academic year 2009-2010 must have passed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE). Candidates must also pass the vernacular (Gujarati) language proficiency test, unless they have cleared their secondary and higher secondary examinations with Gujarati as a subject.

The maximum age limit is 35 years for General category candidates. Age relaxation is provided for reserved categories: SC/ST candidates can apply up to 38 years of age. Candidates working in the Courts or other Allied Departments can apply until the age of 40 years. The minimum age requirement is typically 21 years for judicial service examinations.

The selection process comprises three stages: (1) Preliminary Examination - an objective-type test to assess general knowledge, English proficiency, and basic legal understanding, serving as a screening test; (2) Main Written Examination - descriptive type questions covering various legal subjects including Civil and Criminal Law, Evidence Act, and procedural laws; and (3) Viva-Voce (Interview) - to evaluate the candidate's suitability for the judicial role. All three phases are qualifying in nature.

The Preliminary Exam consists of two papers: Paper I (Law) carrying 100 marks and Paper II (Gujarati Language Test) carrying 50 marks, both objective type with 2 hours and 30 minutes duration respectively. The Main Exam consists of two descriptive papers (Criminal Law and Civil Law), each carrying 200 marks with 3 hours duration per paper. The Interview carries 50 marks. Qualifying marks are 50% for both Preliminary and Main Exams, and 40% for the Interview and Gujarati Language Test.
