How to Prepare for the HPSC Assistant Director Exam 2026
- Start with the official syllabus: Since the paper is subjective and covers nine distinct sections, list out every topic from the syllabus above and track your preparation against it rather than relying on generic engineering revision material.
- Prioritize the technical core subjects: Engineering Mechanics, Thermal Science, Workshop Science, Electrical Science, Electronics & Communication, and Civil form the bulk of the syllabus – allocate more study time to these compared to the administrative and policy-based sections.
- Don't skip the skill-development and administration sections: Topics like PMKVY, NSQF, CITS, NAPS, SANKALP, and STRIVE, along with ITI academic and administrative management, are distinct sections in the syllabus and should be prepared separately using current government scheme documents.
- Practice subjective, descriptive writing: Since the Subject Knowledge Test is subjective in nature, practice writing structured, point-wise answers within a 3-hour time frame rather than only solving objective-type questions.
- Revise using standard engineering textbooks: For core sections like Engineering Mechanics, Thermal Science, Electrical Science, and Electronics, refer to standard diploma/degree-level engineering textbooks that match the topics listed in the official syllabus.
- Track the 35% qualifying threshold: Since only candidates crossing the 35% cut-off are considered for interview calls (up to 3 times the number of posts), aim to build a comfortable margin above this threshold across all sections rather than just clearing it.
