  • Programming in C
  • Recursion
  • Arrays, stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, binary search trees, binary heaps, graphs

5. Algorithms

  • Searching, sorting, hashing
  • Asymptotic worst case time and space complexity
  • Algorithm design techniques - greedy, dynamic programming and divide-and-conquer
  • Graph traversals, minimum spanning trees, shortest paths

6. Theory of Computation

  • Regular expressions and finite automata
  • Context-free grammars and push-down automata
  • Regular and context-free languages, pumping lemma
  • Turing machines and undecidability

7. Compiler Design

  • Lexical analysis, parsing, syntax-directed translation

How to Prepare for HPSC System Analyst Exam 2026

  • Go through all 10 syllabus sections first and map each topic to standard computer science engineering references before starting subject-wise study.
  • Since the paper is subjective and 3 hours long, practise writing full-length descriptive answers, not just solving objective questions, to build speed and clarity within the time limit.
  • Prioritise Programming and Data Structures, Algorithms, Databases, Operating Systems and Computer Networks, as these are typically the most application-heavy sections in a subjective computer science paper.
  • Revise Engineering Mathematics and Digital Logic separately, as these are foundational sections that are easy to lose marks on if left for the end.
  • Attempt previous HPSC Subject Knowledge Test papers or similar GATE-pattern computer science papers for practice, since the syllabus sections closely mirror standard computer science curricula.
  • Keep the 35% qualifying threshold in mind - since only three times the number of posts are called for interview, aim to comfortably clear the cut-off rather than just meeting it.
