The selection is made through a Committee authorised by the Vidyalaya Management and Development Committee (VMDC). Priority is determined by community category and residential location in the following order:

1. Destitute women from ST community.
2. Destitute women from SC community.
3. Destitute women from other community.
4. Poor unwed mother having no means of livelihood or support from family of ST community.
5. Poor unwed mother having no means of livelihood or support from family of SC community.
6. Poor unwed mother having no means of livelihood or support from family of other community.
7. Poor divorcee or Desertee from ST community.
8. Poor divorcee or Desertee from SC community.
9. Poor divorcee or Desertee from Other community.

If two or more candidates belong to the same community, priority is decided by: (i) Rangamatia GP, (ii) Shamakhunta Block, (iii) Mayurbhanj District, and (iv) Elder candidate i.e. higher date of birth.
